What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
There's never really been a bad episode of JAM, so why the compilers have decided to include more than half the episodes here with appearances by the disgraced Clement Freud (Google him) is beyond comprehension.
What could BBC Radio Comedy have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
It's not that Freud should be airbrushed out of the show's history, it's just that his comedy persona depended on the audience's assumption that he was just a kindly old man. With that shattered, he's just not funny to listen to anymore and it's strange they've included episodes with him up to as recent as 2004.
What didn’t you like about the narrators’s performance?
The 5 Freudless episodes are fantastic however. Derek Nimmo, Kenneth Williams, Peter Jones, Paul Merton and the ever-brilliant chairman Nicholas Parsons on top form.
You didn’t love this book--but did it have any redeeming qualities?
Highlights include a pre-Merton appearance by Paul's HIGNFY opponent Ian Hislop and the 2016 panto. It might have been a better idea to create a compilation along the lines of the 25th anniversary Silver Minutes collection.
