Summary

One of six modern morality plays, with a whiff of the fantastical, about people who work in and around the stalls of the Victorian City Market. Imam Jawad and Rabbi Greenberg can't stand the sight of each other. But then something strange and spooky occurs. Something that needs cross-cultural co-operation. Can they do it? A wickedly funny supernatural comedy by Shakeel Ahmed.

Starring David Fleeshman as the Rabbi and Muzz Khan as the Imam, with Wylie Longmore, Peter Singh, Jessica Manley, Nakib Narat, Roger Butcher and Lloyd Peters. Original Music by Steven D. Reid. Produced by Gary Brown.

An Unexpected Delight

What made the experience of listening to Market: An Imam and a Rabbi the most enjoyable?

By far the story line. A completely unexpected and whimsical take on relations between Jews and Muslims centered around a market stall. An absolute escapist fantasy with layered characters doing very unexpected things.

What did you like best about this story?

The actors who played the Rabbi and the Imam were wonderful. It helps that the characters were so quirky. The voices truly brought these weird but wonderful characters to life. The Imam in particular is an unrepentantly flawed but honest character who probably could have invented sarcasm.

Which scene did you most enjoy?

Without being a spoiler, my favourite scenes involved a few key characters being pulled away from loudspeakers to the dismay of their respective congregations.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The instructions from the possesed to the Rabbi on how to tie a knot effectively.

Any additional comments?

A short, sweet, delightful and completely unexpected story. Absolutely enjoyed the touch of fantasy.
