A must read
A thoughtful, intelligent and comprehensive interdisciplinary work uniting mythology from a multitude of cultures and ages with modern scientific knowledge, and beautifully narrated by the author. Cannot recommend it enough. Moving right on to the sequel, Magicians of the Gods!

Much, much older!
Good book but he filled it up with a lot of old tales etc, still raises some important questions that I happen to agree with.

Excellent!

very insightful and interesting
very satisfying listening experience with an interesting narrative. I found that the hypothesis suggested are very insightful and do try to first explain the already established theories. I only had some trouble with the ending, the conclusion. I do not think it necessary to try and come up with an explanation and suggest it as the answer, being that the proposed ancient civilisation lived in todays Antarctica, and mainly that the sphinx represented the star constellation Leo to indicate what era this proposed civilisation existed in. The problem I have with that idea is that the star constellation as we know then where named and grouped by the greeks. This assumes that all civilisations would instinctively group and name the constellations the same way. You need a good amount of imagination already to picture the constellations as their proposed imagery, who is to say that other civilisations wouldent have proposed other imagery for the same constellations, and even group them differently. But the overall idea that earlier civilisations have existed and then somehow collapsed seems very plausible. That the engineering and technology used to create these pyramids and temples must have been a legacy from something, as there is no other plausible explanations to how these objects could be constructed with such primitive technology. For instance the proposed idea that the stones were cut with copper saws, sand and water is absurd, you could only cut about a mm an hour doing so. But also its incredible unfeasible when they propose the pyramid was built on a timescale of 20 years, as in that time they would have needed to place a block every minute or so, with no breakes.

a thrilling journey through the mysterious history of civilisation. this book shattered my naive understanding of where we came from. it made me question the history of human cultural development that I was taught in school. also hancock is a fantastic story teller. his cadence in the narration is brilliant.
