Summary

Frank Skinner was one of the best-selling autobiographies of all time and perhaps the best reviewed. In this new volume of memoirs, Frank Skinner describes his experience of going back on the road and doing stand up again, after many years spent working exclusively on television.

His adventures on the road are by turns funny and moving as he meditates on growing older, the terrors and joys of trying to be funny in front of a live audience, and on the nature of comedy itself. He interweaves stories of his former laddish behavior and also tells a love story about a girl he had a brief fling with years ago who comes back into his life while he is touring. At the age of 50, Frank Skinner asks himself: Is it time to grow up?

Great

A hugely enjoyably listen thanks to Frank's honesty and his willingness to tell you the whole story about his life on the road, whether you like it or not. Really funny in places, particularly his horrible retelling of his first encounter with a prostitute.

Great read, especially for comedians in the mixer.

Loved it. Good to know that being neurotic is part of being a comic and that I'm normal.

Brilliant

One of the very best books about what it's like to be a comedian. Just a bit of a shame it's abridged.

Well Done Mr Skinner

Wicked. Narrated by Frank himself, I thoroughly enjoyed listening to the ups and downs of his recent Tour. There were plenty of stand up one-liners to whet my appetite for more. The tears just rolled from laughter in many places.
Based on this, if there was a tour venue near me, I'd be there!

Absolute Spoilt

I'm confess to being a big Frank fan and thought this was a great read. It didn't quite compare with Frank's Absolute Radio show or his first book hence the 4 stars.

Funny, honest, brilliant

A relentlessly honest account of self doubt and self expression. Beautifully crafted and always funny. Frank is the best.

Beats the Written Word!

I have long been a fan of Frank Skinner. Recently I purchased a couple of his live stand up sets from Audible and was dismayed by their expensiveness and poor sound quality, not to mention all that the listener misses out on by not being able to see what Frank is doing.

I have read his autobiography (with my actual eyes) and was very impressed. However, by this audio book, I was blown away!

It?s unfortunately abridged, but not so heavily that it seems more like a synopsis than a credible book.
It provides a contemporary and honest look at Frank?s life, centring on his recent return to stand up with some old stories thrown in for good measure.

I was laughing out loud in places; Frank uniquely balances fine and fowl language with equal articulacy.
Someone reading the actual book would definitely be missing out on this occasion, with Frank falling into his stand up routines with practiced tone and timing that of course would be missing from the written word.

On a couple of occasions he actually plays an instrument and sings, I can only assume readers got the lyrics.
So this is definitely a good purchase for any Skinner fans, and in my opinion one of the best recorded and involving audio books available.

Brummie Gem

A smashing audiobook giving us an honest glimpse into the deepest recesses of this most talented man. And a lot of big laughs. The stuff about granny porn was particularly welcome as well as the George Formby de nos jours .
