Publisher's Summary

When it comes to meditation, Pema Chodron is widely regarded as one of the world's foremost teachers. Yet she's never offered an introductory course on audio - until now. In How to Meditate with Pema Chodron, subtitled "A Practical Guide to Making Friends with Your Mind", the American-born Tibetan Buddhist nun and best-selling author presents her first complete spoken-word course for those new to meditation. Through traditional insights and her personal guidance in 12 sitting sessions, Chodron will help you honestly meet with, and compassionately relate to, your mind as you explore:
The basics of mindfulness awareness practice, from proper posture, to learning to settle, to breathing and relaxation

Gentleness, patience, and humor - three ingredients for a well-balanced practice

Shamatha (or calm abiding), the art of stabilizing the mind to remain present with whatever arises

Thoughts and emotions as "sheer delight" - instead of obstacles - in meditation

A woman of real depth

What did you like most about How to Meditate with Pema Chodron?

Pema Chodron clearly has a great insight into, and experience of meditation. The silences are both very appropriate and helpful in getting a sense of what meditation is all about. She has a deep understanding of what meditation is all about, and is able to convey that with her humour.

What about Pema Chodron’s performance did you like?

As she has such a wide awareness and consciousness, she is able to find humour in almost anything. But not a cynical humour, but a rich, loving humour.

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

She is a very warm and genuine person, and it is hard not to respond in kind.

Any additional comments?

If you are interested in meditation, then this is a must to experience. It will change your life for the better - if you let it.

Dreadful recording quality

This is not a book or a novel. This is a guide to meditation and the recording quality is so poor that it is impossible to actually use it as the guide it was intended to be. There are extended silences during which one is supposed to follow the instructions however the recording is one made with an automatic level control and the background noise level rises slowly to a roar during what is supposed to be silence. To make matters worse the data reduction software can't really make a decent job of noise so it sound even worse. Shoddy work. Awful and unusable
