Summary

Caution Spiritual Seekers: You Might Just Find What You're Looking For!

Underneath the turmoil of thought, emotion, and personal will, there is a flow. If you're reading these words, you've probably felt it - the natural movement of life, the truth that beckons below the surface of things. What would happen if you were to stop avoiding this universal energy, and instead completely embrace it?

According to author and teacher Adyashanti, herein lies the heart of spiritual awakening - and it's likely to "end your world." Why? Because with spiritual awakening, instead of a new version of you, you find no version of you - your true nature beyond any point of view - "that which is continually partaking of all experience, in each and every instant."

Straight Talk on the Nature of Enlightenment

More and more people today have had a glimpse of this genuine kind of awakening, only to see it slip away after a few hours or days. Adyashanti calls this the "I got it/I lost it" phenomenon that perplexes so many of his students. For those caught between what he calls "non-abiding" awakening and the ultimate state of "abiding" enlightenment, Adyashanti offers The End of Your World - his first in-depth audio course about the remarkable yet enigmatic process of spiritual awakening. With straight talk and penetrating insight, Adyashanti helps you navigate the pitfalls and cul-de-sacs that "un-enlighten" us along the journey, including: the trap of meaninglessness; how the ego can "co-opt" realization for its own purposes; the illusion of superiority that may accompany intense spiritual breakthroughs; and the danger of becoming "drunk on emptiness."Inquiring Sincerely into Every Aspect of Your Life

"Full awakening comes when you sincerely look at yourself, deeper than you've imagined, and question everything," teaches Adyashanti. With 12 bold sessions about topics ordinarily kept private between student and teacher, The End of Your World is your invitation to join Adyashanti for an honest investigation of what you really are - and how to live when you discover it.

Invaluable and rare insights

Thank you, thank you, thank you!
Adyashanti shares invaluable and rare insights about a relationship with life seldom spoken of, that is, living life with eyes wide open in perpetual wonderment. These talks are not so much a guide to spiritual attainment. They do not discuss spiritual practices or method. What they do offer is reassurance of the validity of that inner, intuitive intelligence, that 'little voice' that represents an alignment with the path as it opens up. They serve as an encouragement to surrender and stay present in the face of whatever arises, trusting that this is where liberation can only ever be found. Stay with the One who Knows.... Onwards!

Somewhat dry

What disappointed you about The End of Your World?

There were not many anecdotes or examples that I could really relate to. I've learned so much from spiritual teachers who talk a lot about their lives or people they've worked with, for example Pema Chodron. In comparison but this felt rather abstract.

Would you ever listen to anything by Adyashanti again?

maybe

Would you listen to another book narrated by the narrator?

not relevant, the book is of talks given by the author himself. He's not an actor

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

determination to read it till I got something out of it. I did eventually.

Any additional comments?

Maybe the blurb should make it clearer that this is for hardcore spiritual truthseekers rather than haphazard listeners like me.

Beginners to this subject seek elsewhere.

Very very slow. Murray knows his stuff, but poor delivery. NOT FOR BEGINNERS! Misses the target, except for listeners who already have this level of understanding. If you want to answer the question of transformation in a lived sense, seek elsewhere; if you enjoy an academic gathering of ideas then go for it.

A bunch of lectures

This is just a collection of lectures that Adyashanti gave in the past. I’m sure I could find some of them on YouTube.

Disappointing

What would have made The End of Your World better?

The book contains a lot of theory about what enlightenment is like and the path to enlightenment but few examples to engage and make this relevant to the listener.

Brilliant

A clear, real, nuts & bolts description of the awakening process & the mystery of life. Adyashanti’s narration is honest and natural. Loved it.

Very helpful messages

I very much enjoyed this audiobook. It feels quite conversation and steps back from the spiritual journey to be able to see it from another perspective. Not all parts of it resonated with me in the same way but many parts of it have really left a mark. I have found Adyashanti’s teachings some of the most accessible and helpful I have found and I look forward to experiencing more of them.
