Summary

Amber Farrell, Denver PI, is coming to terms with being part of the paranormal community, but she's about to find that includes very dangerous responsibilities for her. Nothing is quite what it seems, least of all Amber herself, and to survive she must form alliances with powerful groups whose interests are in conflict. But she knows she's expendable, and betrayal is inevitable....

Denver is hosting a meeting of the opposing Athanate creeds who are stirring after a hundred years of peace. War between them would be disastrous for everyone, human and paranormal, but it's Amber who's being blamed for the troubles in the run-up to the Assembly.

And it's going to get very personal....

Definitely not the same old, same old

The Bite Back Series gripped my attention two years ago, 'cause it is not the same old ... same old. World-building is imaginative and Amber is a well developed, three-dimensional character - tough (been there, done that and burnt the T-shirt) but not overblown or in a suicidal manner. The story feels real (I know UF, but still) and there is a lot of action without turning into non-stop-roller-coaster-..., but still breath-taking in so many ways.
The audio version is a new chance to relive the story and to get up to date again - if you read a lot you know what I mean.
Julia is no less Amber Farrell than Kimberly had been - indeed Mark did a great and thorough job single her out and I hope the story continues ...

Very good second audio book!

Again, I was given a promotional code in exchange for a fair review.

Again, I very much enjoyed the story. The narrator, Julia Motyka, worked very well for me, it was a pleasure to listen to her. The author, Mark Henwick, spins a very engaging tale that for me works perfectly in the medium audiobook. In fact, I enjoyed the audiobook a little more than the book, even though I don't know why that would be.
