Critic reviews

"He has a strong sense of narrative, a flair for anecdote and a lively style....The American story really is a remarkable one, filled with its share of brilliant leaders and tragic mistakes." ( The Washington Post's Book World)

A good narrative history

Any additional comments?

This is a good narrative history written for the general reader. The author has served as a Sec of Education, which makes his take on things interesting.

I am impressed

This is an excellent and well written history of America's beginnings. I thought that the author would shy away from the controversial subjects of America's past and put a spin on things. He paints a picture of history "warts and all" intead of "warts and that is all".

I would recommend this for any high school or college student that needs a well done history book on America's origins.

Excellent

This author has done his homework. I have read other American historical books such as "1776" and "John Adams" to name a few, yet I have found this book to be more exciting. It is written in chronological order and makes important connections throughtout the United States' history that explains why things happened the way they did. After listening to this book it is even more obvious that only the hand of God could keep the Union together and guide the Founding Fathers. You will need to listen closely as a wealth of information is offered in every sentence. Enjoy.
