Hmmmm.

Firstly, most historians do not consider concentration camp guards as Waffen SS. I was hoping to hear the experiences of Panzer troops and grenadiers and SS Calvary etc from both Eastern and Western theatres. Secondly including a female camp guard is also not representative of the SS in general nevermind the Waffen SS. Thirdly I found the language used by people born in the 1910s and 20s rather bizarre. Was it translated by a Gen Z? I wouldn’t expect people of that generation to say they had felt “triggered” or had been involved from the “get go”. This made the whole thing feel inauthentic. The final story struck me as particularly odd (spoiler alert!). He claimed to be a journalist aged 22 intent on investigating reports of the killing of Jews so he joined the SS in 1942. If he was fit enough to join the SS why was he - aged 22 in 1942 - not already in uniform? To me this sounded very much like someone trying to rewrite his history to explain his activities in the camps as someone trying to expose the horrific crimes when really he was a participant in them.

Overall it was so short it wasn’t a huge waste of my time but it was a waste of one Audible credit!

Oh dear

Oh dear a really disappointing book in all aspects. will not recommend to anyone. extremely brief in content and details and a poor narration makes it not worth bothering with.
