Great book overall

The book was a great book overall but lacked deeper character development. but to be fair there are about 2 families whose 6 generations are nearly covered. Each distinct enough to be remembered beautifully. The narrators great too.

A gorgeous story

This is so incredibly well-crafted, from the author's evocations of the many settings of this story, to the voices of the diff tent narratives and perspectives. Moving.

Gave me shivers

This book gave me shivers. Just an amazing book and it’s a must read! I enjoyed every bit of it and had to make sure I remember all the names and descendants. Really made me think!

Very rewarding read

A tough, but important and rewarding reading. I struggled a bit to follow how the characters were related to each other and I think I might have found that easier if I'd read the print version rather than the audiobook. Beautifully written though, and a great thought-provoking reflection on the legacy of colonialism.

Brilliantly written. I loved every minute.

Once I started, I could not stop. What a beautiful story following generations of two sisters in different worlds... and I could only imagine what it is like not knowing where you come from. I felt those words although I have not experienced them.

As an African in Africa I thought about all the choices Effia made and all the choices I probably would have made as Esi. Another thing that stuck with me was when the "crazy woman" said that the evil that is in the world today began as the evil in our homes. Man that cut deep.

Every emotion

I loved this book. The different journeys of all the characters, and how the generations saw themselves, and the world around them. A wonderful insight into how the times have changed, and in some ways how they haven't.

I would highly recommend this book.

Incredible story made even better by the narrator

This story is ingeniously constructed spanning the descendants of two sisters with extremely different life stories. The story is an amazing read I am sure, but for me the narrator snd his ability to vocally portray each character made listening to it riveting. I think I would have missed much of the subtext reading it on my own.

I will be re-reading this very soon

I have been meaning to read this for some years now, but I put it off. There is a time for everything as I would never have appreciated it until now. This book reads like several small stories, they are interwoven beautifully, you get drawn into the story of each character and you feel for them. Although there were times you wanted the characters stories to be fleshed out a little more, Yaa is a good story teller, so much so that you wanted to know more about her characters. The ending didn't leave me wanting either, it ended as it should have, they were home.

Perfect. Heartbreaking.

Every chapter another person down the generation, Homecoming is layers upon layers, histories and peoples of Blackness and slavery. Astonishing read.
