Summary

Richard Bandler - the world-renowned co-creator of NLP who has helped millions around the world change their lives for the better - has teamed up once again with Italian NLP Master Trainer Alessio Roberti and co-founder of the Irish Institute of NLP Owen Fitzpatrick, to offer a simple yet engaging introduction to the groundbreaking ideas of NLP.

Written in the form of a fable, Choose Freedom is the prequel to The Ultimate Introduction to NLP. Once again Bandler invites readers into his workshops and illustrates the theories and techniques he has spent years developing.

Based around a three-day introductory course, this audiobook will give you the tools you need to start making an effective change today.

From explaining the importance of self-belief and how to change beliefs, to how to control your emotions and negative thinking, and how to create the life you want.

This is an easy-to-read and inspiring account that readers can turn to time and again.

Could be better

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

No . This is obviously supposed to be an important topic but infusing the story with some kind of banal love interest and descriptions of what people are wearing is just tedious and irritating. I also consider referring to someone as a gorilla is totally unacceptable and unprofessional . Some of the examples given were unorthodox too and slightly dubious.

What will your next listen be?

Mindful meditation

Did Owen Fitzpatrick do a good job differentiating each of the characters? How?

Vaguely

Could you see How to Take Charge of Your Life: The User's Guide to NLP being made into a movie or a TV series? Who would the stars be?

Definitely not

Any additional comments?

It would have been better if they just stuck to the theory and not bothered with the badly written banal story.

More of a narrative than a users guide imo...

More of a narrative than a users guide imo nonetheless the book delivered on several NLP tactics for change both immediate & longer term. I would recommend this to an open minded friend.

Better than expected

The story telling helped me to understand better instead of instructional book of do and donts.

Amazingly helpful book

The information was very useful and could listen to this book over and over again. I wished they had some chapters at the end which reminded you of the techniques though

Neither a course or a story

This book gives nlp techniques whilst telling Joe's story about when he attended the course.
I don't think this works as it doesn't give you enough information to really learn the techniques. Instead you get roped into a lame story about him meeting a girl at the course.
I'm all for stories that help you learn but this was a bit disappointing

Very dubious. A lot of it is utter bobbins.

I approached this with an open mind, but as I progressed, I became increasingly disconcerted by the format. The book takes the form of a story about somebody learning about NLP. Throughout, the way the people behave and their reactions are constantly creepy and verging on cultish. It reminded me of when I was talked into attending an MLM meeting, and the subtle verbal bullying that's attempted to make you do their bidding. Given that this isn't a story of a real situation, it's literally the most glowing way they can describe somebody being introduced to their own techniques, it's really worrying that they managed to make it sound so... icky and weird. I tried every exercise. I won't lie, some of them were helpful. Some of them nearly gibberish. Most of them you could be told in a 20 minute session, except this has to happen within the framework of the story to try to hypnotise you into believing that they all work (because you're hearing about a dude whose life is transformed by the techniques... a made up dude). Finally, the love-interest part is just crass. It's literally "and he gets the girl..." with the implication that if you act like him, you will too! This has, on balance, really turned me away from wanting to know more about NLP.

Not as expected

I'm a big fan of Richard Bandler and his work. However this book has very little to do with NLP. The exercise and ideas have been wrapped up in a very poorly written narrative. Increadably corney and one dimensional characters leave you rolling your eyes at the format used to express the information.
