A fascinating and balanced portrayal of the dog

Very enjoyable. Great science based listen for anyone even remotely interested in dogs. The science is portrayed in a highly accessible way, the writing is interesting, and all is enhanced by the narrator's performance. I particularly enjoyed the fact that the author doesn't just present and focus on the dry scientific facts, but also allows for the emotional consideration of the human-dog bond. I think it's a very good, balanced book.

A must for dog owners

What did you like most about Inside of a Dog?

This is an extremely interesting audio book. Really well narrated. It was surprisingly engaging and informative and promised to get me looking at my dogs differently. It succeeded in this. The book is intentionally quite amusing in places.

Any additional comments?

Any dog owner would benefit from this. It will help you get some understanding of why your dog behaves the way it does and give you some idea about how to influence it. It is not a training guide though

Insightful read

I'm yet to find a book that so perfectly mirrors how I feel about our canine companions.

I would recommend this read for anybody, in fact I would insist!

great book, bad narrator.

I have tead the book before. So I decided to get a copy on tape too. I don't think I'll be able to listen to much of it, the narrator is terrible. Sounds like an electronic voice on the old school text to speech functions on Mac computers. Not enjoyable to listen too at all.

Too much comparisons between dogs and wolves

Some good parts but the fact that dogs are not wolves made a lot of this book unbearable to listen to and made it difficult to distinguish whether or not the rest of the information in the book was based on fallacies too.

Education, entertaining, & engaging

This excellent book is a staple on reading lists for Animal Behaviour, and Canine Training, courses - and for very good reason!

Professor Horowitz takes us on a journey into the mind, and experiences, of our closest companions, delivering the fruit of decades of research into canine cognition through the lens of her beloved pup, in a way that is highly informative, whilst being engaging, and endearing.

There really is no other book on the canine mind that comes close to the width and depth of information, whilst remaining entirely accessible to anyone with a passion for dogs.

As regards the audiobook version, the narrator does a smashing job of being emotive without getting overly sentimental, the recording quality is nice and clear, and I found (with a hearing impairment, and delayed audio processing issues) the speed of delivery just right, remaining easy to follow throughout.

All told, I really cannot recommend this book too highly, I have both the audio and paperback, and gift it frequently to the dog lovers in my life!

A book for someone who has never seen a dog

Whyyyy? Hours and hours of naming shapes of dog's ears, sounds that are made by different animals, and other things toddlers don't know yet about. I've heard about the author and have some expectation. Very disappointed. I wish people who don't have anything interesting to say stopped publishing their books.

Informative and Poignant

Changed how I interact with my dog. Also beautifully written, especially when she writes about her dogs.
