"Probably the best one-volume English language summary of Jung's thought." (Choice)
"Himself a widely regarded analyst, Stein presents Jung's major theoretical contributions in language as uncomplicated as the subject allows...Aimed at the general reader but sufficiently academic for the specialist, this is an excellent basic book on the subject." (Booklist)
"Writing for the general reader, Stein provides an outline of Jung's basic concepts that is clearly written and indicates some of the distinctions between Jung's thinking and Freud's." (Publishers Weekly)

Excellent book; barely tolerable narration
What did you like best about Jung's Map of the Soul? What did you like least?
The work is an excellent introduction to Jung's theory. It is extraordinarily deep and well written. The problem is the narrator doesn't sound like he understands the book. His inflections are all wrong and he doesn't pause when he should. Such a great book deserves a better narrator.
Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Larry Earnhart?

The content and organization of the book was terrific. The narrator read the book as though he were in a race adding inflections in unnatural places. His midwestern accent was borderline comical. The reading made the book more difficult to comprehend by adding an additional and unnecessary barrier. The material was interesting enough that it pushed me to listen to some chapters more than once in spite of the painful narration.
