Clay Cooper and his band were once the best of the best - the meanest, dirtiest, most feared and admired crew of mercenaries this side of the Heartwyld. But their glory days are long past; the mercs have grown apart and grown old, fat, drunk - or a combination of the three.
Then a former bandmate turns up at Clay's door with a plea for help: his daughter Rose is trapped in a city besieged by an enemy horde 100,000 strong and hungry for blood. Rescuing Rose is the kind of impossible mission that only the very brave or the very stupid would sign up for.
It's time to get the band back together for one last tour across the Wyld.

A love lettter to classic tabletop RPGs
This book was from start to finish laden with self referencing humour and external references that had me grinning from ear to ear during my commute. Subtle nods to classic RPGs, fiction, and gaming tropes. Intermixed with fun and interesting twists on some old ideas to keep everything fresh.
While you don't need to know your Giant Tarantula from your Tarrasque to enjoy the book you'll defiantly get more out of it. The author does a good job describing the important elements of the exotic monsters encountered on the bands travels, however some of the more brief nods will go over the heads of some readers, especially during the climaxing chapters there are extremely large numbers of monsters mentioned in brief quick succession.
The narration was on point with only a couple of words such as Cuirass sounding off and one or two times during the action where the character inflections seemed to get a bit muddled. Not enough to distract for more than an instant. Each major character gets their own distinct voice so it's never a struggle to work out who is talking.

What a book!
Got this expecting a tongue in cheek, pratchett style book. What I got was wall to wall action with fantastic characters and a brilliant concept. Can't recommend highly enough!!
If Cornwells warrior or warlord books were funnier, they'd be in the same realm.

Kings Of Fantasy!
What made the experience of listening to Kings of the Wyld the most enjoyable?
What a journey, your with them every step of the way, your in the Band and it feels good Damnit!
Who was your favorite character and why?
Moog. Plain and simple the comic relief done absolutely right! I LOVE YOU MOOG!
What does Jeff Harding bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?
I think Jeff Harding told the story as if it was his, Clay was Jeff and Jeff was Clay.
What I will say however is that at times you found yourself wanting more varied voices from the narrator and he can be a bit monotone but I think it actually added to the story in this case. To each is own I suppose.
Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
I did both of those things which solicited funny looks from my co-workers!
Any additional comments?
I am looking forward to enough time passing so I can listen to it fresh again!

Great story about a retired DnD band
good story for people who are fantasy interested, not as in depth going as some, but has great characters, humor and good theme.

fantastic book
I rarely write reviews but thought this story and the narration was of such high calibre I felt compelled to do so.
great, full and colourful characters on an epic adventure. some extremely funny moments that made me guffaw mixed with some very poignant and sad moments.Recommend this book thoroughly especially if your a grizzled old fart like me who loves the fantasy genre.

Goonies meets DnD for adults...
Fantastic pros, like listening to a transcript of a DnD game. Has a goonies feel to it with the A-team of the fantasy world thrown in for some violent monsters bashing. The characters are bold, flawed and like 'player characters unpredictable. Great read, want to hear more from Saga. Thank you for this gift.

Well I wasn't expecting that...
Stumbled upon this as research, what I came away with was one of the most fantastical adventurous romps I have ever read, and a stearn warning from my manager for laughing to loud at my desk. Heart warmimg to breaking and back again. Sequel was an insta-buy!

Good fun
I was unsure how I felt about this title at the beginning, as I would say I'm used to a more 'serious', less comedic read/listen. However as I continued listening the book grew on me a lot. I couldn't help but enjoy listening to the over the top voices the narrator gave many of the characters, and the humour which accompanies the many situations the main band encounter. I thought the narracter did a good job throughout, truth be told, and managed to bridge the jump between comedy moments and the more emotional bits very well. The tone was light throughout and I think it's a fantasy lovers fantasy...theres almost too much thrown in. All in all it was an enjoyable fun listen.
