Harry.
There is something different about this one, smoother, more matured or something. As always, brilliant.

Beyond brilliant
The best Harry Hole yet ... but new comers are recommended to start at Book 1 and delight in the whole series to relish in the full flavours of this brilliant, original masterpiece!
Sean Barrett remains the most masterful narrator and a mere five stars does not do him justice !

Just brilliant again.
One of my favourites books along with The Snowman (the book NOT the shocking movie). I thought I had it, I thought I had it all worked out and then the twist came from left field and I relished how perfect it was - I wasn’t close, not even in the same field. I love, love the exquisitely detailed narrative that is pure Nesbo. And only Sean Barrett - there can never be another narrator.

Harry is back!
Harry Hole (pronounced Hoola, for the uninitiated) is back in book number 12 in the series. He is still struggling with alcoholism and still playing the game by his rules. But the murder in Knife is a lot more personal than his previous cases, and to add to this burden, he is also on the case of Svein Finne, a particularly nasty serial rapist known as The Fiancé.
Unlike The Thirst, Knife isn’t as graphically violent, although it does have its moments. It’s more of a psychological thriller. The menace of the rapist Finne in particularly made my skin crawl. It’s multilayered with a lot of characters coming into play. It isn’t quite as fast paced as The Thirst, but this isn’t to the detriment of the story and it is still totally absorbing.
If you have read any of the previous Harry Hole stories you’ll know what to expect and you won’t be disappointed. Still fighting the drink, still listening to rock music (something he has in common with Ian Rankin’s Rebus). The Knife like the other books in this series is dark and gritty and set like most of these stories in Oslo.
Can you work out who the killer is before Harry, all the clues are there!
I also enjoyed the narration. A perfect match for the story.

good story; great narrator
I am generally a fan of Scandi noire and so decided to give Nesbo a try. Having another alcoholic police detective is getting a bit wearing, but there you go. The narrator made the arch villain truly terrifying in an understated soft voice. SPOILER ALERT: Cannot believe any one could survive in May river water in Norway. When I sailed in Seattle, our captain warned we had 6 minutes if anyone went overboard. In all I would say an average crime book, but very well delivered.
