Summary

Pretty Alice Lacey couldn't be more different from her sister-in-law; bitter, ambitious Cora. Alice is happily married to John Lacey, Cora to his hapless younger brother, Billy. Both women give birth to sons on one chaotic night in war-torn Liverpool, but Cora's jealousy and resentment prompt her to swap her puny baby for Alice's beautiful son...

Maureen Lee was born in Bootle. She has had numerous short stories published and a play professionally staged, though it was not until the youngest of her three sons left school that she was able to write full-time.

Engaging and Enjoyable

This is a long but totally engaging and well written book with well drawn and believable characters and it leaves the reader wanting to read more. The narrator was accurate, easy to listen to and perfect for the book. This is not my usual type of book but this was a very enjoyable listen and I will buy more books by this author.

Family saga

Great story which has you captivated from the first chapter.

Well drawn characters with their flaws and emotions from a post war era,

The period details were well researched, and the trials and tribulations of this family was believable,

I would like to draw attention to the simply outstanding narration by Clare Higgins, her male and female voices as well as accents was superb.
But what blew me away was the lady with the cleft palette and her voice pre and post reconstructive surgery was just awesome. I will certainly seek out this talented narrator again.

l hope that this book is not just a one hit wonder
