Summary

The plot is simple: Lady Susan, a clever and ruthless widow, determines that her shy and intimidated teenaged daughter will going to marry a man whom both detest but who will make a good financial "catch". Lady Susan sets her own sights on her sister-in-law's brother, all the while keeping an old affair simmering on the back burner. But people refuse to play the roles they are assigned and her plans spin out of control.

One of Austen's earliest novels, Lady Susan is not only a wonderful character study, but it is the only time that Jane Austen deals with London high society.

A travesty of Austin

If this book wasn’t for you, who do you think might enjoy it more?

Probably Americans who can get past the American (mis) pronunciations.

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

Interesting to sample an Austin story that has not been dramatized (yet)
The characters were not "three dimensional "enough.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

BAD American (mis) pronunciations . No American narrator should be allowed near an English classic story.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Lady Susan?

None

Brilliant Austen

Austen by numbers. She is one of the greats because she is just that, great. Loved the story and it had me hooked instantly. Not always a fan of the letter style fiction but it didn't take away from the character's or story in this case.
