Summary

Letting Go describes a simple and effective means by which to let go of the obstacles to enlightenment and become free of negativity. During the many decades of the author's clinical psychiatric practice, the primary aim was to seek the most effective ways to relieve human suffering in all of its many forms. The inner mechanism of surrender was found to be of great practical benefit and is described in this book.

Dr. Hawkins' previous books focused on advanced states of awareness and enlightenment. Over the years thousands of students had asked for a practical technique by which to remove the inner blocks to happiness, love, joy, success, health, and, ultimately, enlightenment. This audiobook provides a mechanism for letting go of those blocks.

The mechanism of surrender that Dr. Hawkins describes can be done in the midst of everyday life. This audiobook is equally useful for all dimensions of human life: physical health, creativity, financial success, emotional healing, vocational fulfillment, relationships, sexuality, and spiritual growth.

It is an invaluable resource for all professionals who work in the areas of mental health, psychology, medicine, self-help, addiction recovery, and spiritual development.

A masterpiece

This is the last of 11 books written by Dr David R Hawkins M.D. Ph.D. 1927 - 2012 (aged 85).

He headed up the largest psychology practice in New York with 50 psychologists under him so he is an acknowledged expert in his field.

All of his books were written with his intention to help readers move further along in our journey from us being controlled by our mammal brain to us reaching the highest states of consciousness (enlightenment).

This audiobook is 12 hours long which is about double the length of an average audiobook.

Does it need to be 12 hours long or is it one idea with a lot of infill? It needs to be 12 hours long.

It seems to me to be a book for people who are already part of the way along the road away from thoughts and into consciousness.

The further along on this path that you are the more this book will resonate with you.

If you are not into spirituality then maybe you might not get as much from this book. The book mentions God.

It is the most advanced and expert self help book I have ever read.

This book "Letting Go" has so much in it that it is difficult to review without writing another book (:

One point that I haven't read elsewhere is that emotions cause thoughts, not the other way around.

He suggests that if you look at these emotions as they come up (generally fear, guilt or pride) without trying to change them, they will eventuality dissipate.

By dissipating 1 emotion you could get rid of thousands of thoughts around that particular issue.

I highly recommend buying this book.

An exceptionally influential read

What made the experience of listening to Letting Go the most enjoyable?

The book has become my first point of reference to understand and manage my emotions and feelings. The content is simple and profound, the narrator is an excellent choice, it's just a brilliant read/ listen that I just love picking up and listening to the specific topics again and again as needed. Thank you David R. Hawkins for sharing your priceless wisdom, you have made me a happy and content soul, something that until my first read I was at a loss to find.

Not convinced

I didn't like this book to the point where I was irritated by what the author was saying. There are plenty of books on psychology that I found more helpful. Examples of where the method has worked were not very credible along the lines of 'once a man not completely happy with his career let go and got promoted to the director level in 2 days'. Sorry, Mr Hawkins but I'm not convinced.

Auras, Vibration energy etc...

What disappointed you about Letting Go?

I suspect this book may have a valid central message however I couldn't pursue it due to the discussion of auras (which are "scientifically proven" by "experiments") and "vibrational energy" which transmits our emotions to every living thing in the universe apparently!

Loved it ❤

l'm definitely reading this book again. Years ago, I was following the tool recommended in the book unconsciously and I was "truly" happy. Clear minded, had like a shield surrounding my heart, my feelings, the whole chest area if I would point physically to it. Even money was flowing in my hands without paying an effort. Then I have been through a shock of losing both of my parents and I couldn't handle it, I gradually lost myself and the people around me. I became more angry, more afraid I guess. Now, hoping to get things back in control with the help of this book. Thank you auther.

Remarkable

A very insightful book with an honest approach.
Shame about audible books not having the same table of contents as the hard copy as this would make it easier to follow

Returned!

I tried it. Only got through the first few chapters.

There seemed to be long list about the very obvious, little research or objective evidence for the claims made and although this book claims not to support any faith or belief system, it appeared that adopting the ideas in this book might be a belief system in itself.

Sorry sent it back.

inspiring

excellent book. i had to restart midway as I thought I missed the actual mechanism of surrender, but I realized that the author does not actually give a mechanism because one has to experience it. best to start from the last chapter. the bio of the author

DIY Buddhism mixed with very questionable woo

"to walk the aisles of any "spiritual" bookstore is to confront the yearning and credulity of our species by the yard"
- Sam Harris, Waking Up

Unfortunately for this book this quote very much applies. Its hits mostly touch upon fundamental aspects of buddhism, such as love, free will, letting go, non attachment - but when these topics are mentioned they are often misinterpreted and miscommunicated, or not pointed at and named directly at all.

The book's real downfall, and indeed where I could stand it no longer is its serious endorsement of "vibrational energy frequencies" "chakras" and other lots of other spirituality nonsense.

A reader (listener) would be much better served if they were to study free will in a philosophical setting, and learn buddhism from a buddhist book.

This weird mix of science misunderstanding and hindu-based "truths" are not to be taken literally, they are at the very best metaphors.
