Summary
THE MASSIVE NO.1 SUNDAY TIMES BESTSELLER
In this inspiring, uplifting and heartwarming memoir, world-renowned veterinary surgeon Professor Noel Fitzpatrick explores his journey to becoming The Supervet.
Growing up on the family farm in Ballyfin, Ireland, Noel's childhood was spent tending to the cattle and sheep, the hay and silage, the tractors and land, his beloved sheepdog, Pirate, providing solace from the bullies that plagued him at school. It was this bond with Pirate, and a fateful night spent desperately trying to save a newborn lamb, that inspired Noel to enter the world of veterinary science - and set him on the path to becoming The Supervet.
Now, in this long-awaited memoir, Noel recounts this often-surprising journey that sees him leaving behind a farm animal practice in rural Ireland to set up Fitzpatrick Referrals in Surrey, one of the most advanced small animal specialist centres in the world. We meet the animals that paved the way, from calving cows and corralling bullocks to talkative parrots and bionic cats and dogs.
Noel has listened to the many lessons that the animals in his care have taught him, and especially the times he has shared with his beloved Keira, the scruffy border terrier who has been by Noel's side as he's dealt with the unbelievable highs and crushing lows of his extraordinary career.
As heartwarming and life-affirming as the TV show with which he made his name, Listening to the Animals is a story of love, hope and compassion, and about rejoicing in the bond between humans and animals that makes us the very best we can be.
Written and read by Noel Fitzpatrick.

Vet on a mission
This book is not so much an autobiography as a vehicle for Noel's mission to unite animal and human medicine A worthy cause and a common-sense idea, but I was expecting a story of Noel's life, uninterrupted by his 'preachings.' I love the Supervet programmes, even though I'm not an animal owner. You can't help but the like the man, you just warm to him because he's so genuine - what you see is what you get.
In this book he bares his soul to us, the listeners, and for that I commend his bravery!
I've listened to it once but probably won't listen again, as I do with many of my audiobooks.

One man one vision
This is not a vets casebook book this is a story about a man who p against huge odds became what he dreamed of becoming
In places heartbreaking to listen to I cried real tears but I also laughed out loud and stepped back to consider huge moral issues
Noël Fitzpatrick has a vision of one medicine for the benefit of all
Having listened to this book I find myself agreeing with him
This is an incredible book which will make you sit back and really think
about moral beliefs and the issues that we face in both animal and human medicine
Please read listen to it and pass his vision on so we can live in a better world

One for the Supervet fans
I was a bit disappointed in this book..too much technical/ medical detail (and I'm huge fan all things medical) and narration was over egged.. I struggled to finish it..

Not really impressed...
Whilst I actually quite like the Supervet himself, this is a pretty self indulgent and self-serving tale, though interspersed with a few genuinely moving stories about animals of great character.
When Noel repeatedly describes various surgical procedures in technical detail, it all gets a bit dull and unnecessary.
I still have over 4 hours left on this book and don’t see me putting in the time to finish it...
