Summary

A suicide. A drowned man. A sudden death. For some people it's just another day's work.

In Amsterdam there's a council department known affectionately as the Lonely Funerals team. It exists to arrange burials for the abandoned or unknown dead, with the care and dignity that every life deserves.

Pieter Posthumus hasn't been doing the job long, but he's determined to do it well. He finds that he cares deeply about the people whose files land on his desk. So when something doesn't seem quite right about a Moroccan immigrant's 'accidental' drowning, Posthumus starts digging. His quest for justice will lead him down some dangerous paths and into conflict with some very dangerous men....

Oh dear!

I don't understand the positive reviews for this book. None seem to mention the main theme that is the total book! There is a very heavy racial theme against the Moroccan Moslems and what evil they might be getting up to. Not only is is completely boring, it is quite unpleasant and destructive.
The characters are just a lot of names, none have any particular personalities. The narrator is odd in the extreme, he starts off like an excited puppy, then speaks in the same voice throughout – UNTIL – a few odd characters would either be given an unpleasant Cockney, an awful pseudo upper class, or Liverpudlian accent.
Overall, the story is unpleasant, the characters have no definition and there are far too many minor characters making it difficult to work out who is who, the narrator is rubbish. (Apart from that it was excellent!!) As it was a free book that I was trying on the 2 for 1 I cannot complain too loudly, however I certainly won't be picking up the other two in the trilogy!

The synopsis is not good, it mentions PP being a dogged investigator! Really? He didn't even seem to be the main character. I reckon I have wasted a whole day reading this nonsense.

Something went wrong. Please try again in a few minutes.
