An epic western story!

A story of two famous former texas rangers, taking a herd across the American west.
A multitude of characters mesh to form a perfect backdrop for an epic story.
Lee Horsley's narration is faultless.
Highly recommended.

Undoubtedly one of the best books that I have ever encountered. A very worthy Pulitzer Prize winner.

What a journey

This was the first Western I had read. Until about an hour or so in I was skeptical. It seemed slow with not much happening. I’m glad I did keep listening, because I ended up hooked.

You grow attached to the story and it’s characters. Listening to it, it’s as though you were right there with them. What’s more, it contains every conceivable emotion you could think of. Human nature was captured wonderfully. You’ll likely feel almost a sense of loss at no longer being part of the world when you finish it.

The narration was perfect for the story. Albeit it, the voice for Gus did take a bit of getting used to. I don’t know whether it developed into less of a shout or I just got used to it. Either way, it was fine after a while.

More than worthy of the plaudits it receives

One of the best stories I have ever read.

Outstanding. Beautifully written. A wonderfully sad, funny, dark and thought provoking story of friendship, hardship, struggle and love in the American West.

Superb epic

I was trepidatious about starting my first long book but so glad I did. Epic, poignant, beautiful, funny, frightening, I could go on. You feel as though you are there. The reader is absolutely amazing with the multiple voices and distinguishing them plus adding different moods and phases in their life, masterful narration and acting. You can tell each one as he reads. Riveting despite the length. Simply the best Western story of a different era that was changing as they lived it.

people are hot and fiery

people are a bit hot and fiery, but the author painted it realistically. but is comedy very hard to write or maybe it doesn't really exist to be written about.. although Roald Dahl can capture comedy so i do believe it does exist lol
