Summary

Daisy Dunlop thinks "heir hunting" is a perfect career. Too bad she has to work with her husband's best mate, Irish PI Solomon Liffey. They've barely spoken since he took her husband Paul's request to keep her safe far too literally and handcuffed her to the kitchen sink.
Solomon has no interest in babysitting a new partner, especially this one. The woman's a bleedin' liability. She has no concept of danger and could flirt for England at the next Olympics. As if that isn't bad enough, she has a habit of sticking her nose where it's not wanted, including into Solomon's very private life.
Determined to keep Daisy safely out of his way, Solomon sets her the task of finding a missing lord. Her investigations land her in the middle of his case. Bullets fly, bombs explode, and the body count rises. When Solomon goes missing, the tables are turned. Now it's his life that is in Daisy's hands, and she has two missing men to find before it's too late.

Loud, funny and sassy.

This is not my usual genre but I was stuck for a good read. You know the feeling? It's like being hungry but you don't know what you want to eat? well I decided to give this book a go and I'm glad I did. The heroine, Daisy Dunlop is funny and sassy but thankfully there's not really any explicit content. There is a great storyline with plenty going on but it's easy to keep up with and of course a happy ending. It was good uplifting book with a really good narrator. I will definitely buy book two, even though the author offers you a free copy at the end of the book and has enabled the book to be shared, which I like.

If you like Agatha Raisin you'll love this!

What did you like most about Lost Cause?

The banter between the hapless Daisy & macho Irishman Solomon.

What did you like best about this story?

The relationships between Daisy, Paul & Solomon & the fact that Paul asked Solomon to employ Daisy to keep her out of mischief/harm's way & she just kept walking straight into it!

What about Mary Phillips’s performance did you like?

She managed to change convincingly from one accent to another & built up tension where appropriate.

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

It was hilarious in places & I laughed out loud several times.

Fun amatuer mystery

The audiobook narrator was a perfect fit for this story. I enjoyed the cosy mystery/amateur detective/light and fun feel. It was refreshing to read a story that focussed on the mystery and didn't get complicated by a romance thread. I kept expecting it to turn romantic, which would have disappointed me as the heroine claimed to be happily married. Thankfully, she remained happily married to the end, though got herself caught up in all manner of problems on the way.

Fun Book!

Any additional comments?

This is a great book; this is the first book in the Daisy Dunlop series written by JL Simpson and narrated by Mary Phillips. British female sleuth, Daisy Dunlop, thinks "heir hunting" is her dream job. Too bad she has to work with her worst nightmare, private investigator Solomon Liffey. They've barely spoken since he took her husband's request to keep her safe far too literally and handcuffed her to the kitchen sink. Solomon has no interest in babysitting a new partner, especially this one. The woman's a bleedin' liability. She has no concept of danger and could flirt for England at the next Olympics. As if that isn't bad enough, she has a habit of sticking her nose in where it's not wanted, including into Solomon's very private life. Determined to keep Daisy safely out the way, Solomon sets her the task of finding a missing person. Her investigations land her in the middle of his case. Bullets fly, bombs explode, and the number of murder victims keeps rising. When Solomon goes missing, the tables are turned. Now his life is in Daisy's hands.

The narrator Mary Phillips did a wonderful job with this book. She did a great job with the different voices of each character in this book. It was very easy to listen to and I didn’t want to stop listening until the end.

If you are looking for a great book with well-developed characters then you need to listen to this book. I am looking forward to listening to the next book by this author and narrator.
