Alan Cumming stars in CBS's The Good Wife, for which he received an Emmy nomination, and is the host of PBS’s Masterpiece Mystery. He was honored with the 2011 Audie Award for Best Male Narrator.

A Novel Experience
I think the drive of Lady Macbeth to turn an honest thane is well reflected in this novel. Performance and story both excellent. I always look to Shakespeare's plays for a novel interpretation. This novel provides something similar.

Very Good
It's impossible to review this book without referring to Shakespeare, but to make a straight comparison doesn't really do it justice. The book stands on it's own right and is quite gripping. The description of the time and location really brings the world to life and the characters feel quite real. Alan Cumming is an excellent reader and he uses a voice that feels as if its from the period itself.

Absolutely excellent
I never did Shakespeare at school and even now I follow the Bertie Wooster philosophy of "...sounds well but doesn't mean anything." (Call me a Philistine if you wish).
This book however is an exciting adventure story set in the 11th Century and whether you know Shakespeare or not it is page turning stuff (or the audio equivalent).
I highly recommend this for just what it is.

Now I know why Shakespeare is so revered!
I'd never managed to read Shakespeare or even follow a Shakespeare play or film because of the language... I literally lost the plot. So this was a venture into the unknown - and what a delight! It's not a strict version of the original but a very readable and enjoyable version, made all the better by Alan Cummings' narration. Thoroughly recommend if you're not too sure about Shakespeare.

Good
Narration was good and overall I enjoyed this audiobook. A bit light though, it seemed to flick between scenes without much character development. I've never seen the play so thought this would be a good introduction but now I'm not fussed about ever seeing it.
Feels a bit like a wasted opportunity, I think the bones of the story could have been turned into a better modern novel.

a modern MacBeth
never having read the original Shakespear I was pleasantly surprised with this version, it gave a modern feel and atmosphere to the story, especially with all the geographical mentions of places I know or grew up near. Alan Cumming was a great choice or narrator for this novel. I would definitely get other books read by him or other Shakespear novels adapted by these authors.
