Summary

A British journalist is invited to Malmö to interview an old university friend who is now one of Sweden's leading film directors. When he discovers the director's glamorous film-star wife dead in her apartment, the Skåne County Police are called in to solve the high-profile case.

Among the investigating team is Inspector Anita Sundström, who soon finds the list of suspects growing. As Anita battles to discover the answers amid the antagonism of some of her colleagues, she even begins to think that the person she is becoming attracted to could be the murderer.

awful narration

Good story but the narrator should not try to do accents as a Glaswegian her attempts sounds more like bad Geordie

Story ruined by narration

The narrator has a lovely, clear voice when reading fact or description. But she absolutely cannot do accents and, as there is a lot of dialogue in the story, these awful attempts were inescapable. I almost stopped listening several times. I was only able to keep going because it got laughable! The editor character swung between Irish, Scottish, Liverpool and Geordie...ish. And the accents for Swedish characters were like a cartoon take-off of an English-speaking person doing an impression of a Swedish person talking English. Painful. Please MG, don't do accents ... and probably gritty crime dramas full stop. And author and Audible...what were you thinking letting narration ruin narrative?!

To the story. I was drawn to it because we visited Malmo and absolutely loved it. The descriptions in the book brought it alive again. The story had lots of twists and turns and connections so it was attention-grabbing in that way. And the characters were clearly drawn. I did think it was a bit unbelievable that an investigator would have dinner with a key suspect during the investigation but.....Would like to listen to more but absolutely won't if narrated by the same woman. I feel like getting the book of what I've just listened to so I can actually hear the story.

Narration awful

Narration spoilt what may have been a good story. Simply could not concentrate as attempts at accents were very bad.

Meet me in malmo

I have to say that this was one of the worse books I have listened to on Audible. The accents were truly dreadful.

Simplistic dialogue and story line.

Nothing else to write other than there are far more intelligent and Covent authors out there; therefore I would not recommend this book nor will I seek out other novels by the author.

The reader chewed up the accents

The reader's attempts at accents distracted me from the storyline and I got a bit itrritated by it all.

Excellent thriller

If you could sum up Meet Me in Malmo in three words, what would they be?

Good Scandinavian story

What was one of the most memorable moments of Meet Me in Malmo?

The final few pages.

What does Marguerite Gavin bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

Not having to strain trying to pronounce the Scandinavian names etc.

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Not really but these sort of crime stories are always a satisfactory read.

Any additional comments?

Will follow the series without hesitation.

A good Angelo Swedish Thriller

If you could sum up Meet Me in Malmo in three words, what would they be?

A good Listen

What was one of the most memorable moments of Meet Me in Malmo?

There were several twists, but I don't want to spoil the plot.

Have you listened to any of Marguerite Gavin’s other performances? How does this one compare?

No

Any additional comments?

It took a while to start to visualise and get into the characters, but was then a good listen. One or two slight mispronounced words, but that didn't spoil my enjoyment at all.
Looking forward to the next one!

Why the accents?

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

No, because the reading of it was so awful.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Anira

How could the performance have been better?

Please , please, please just read it, DON'T DO ACCENTS IF YOU CAN'T DO ACCENTS!
The Scottish accent was awful, the Newcastle accent was awful. The Swedes sounded like they were Stephen Hawkins artificial voice or from Northern Ireland.

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

None

Any additional comments?

Slow Burner but worth a listen

Although the majority of the book is set in Sweden the author is British and for me this story lacked the idiosyncrasis and style of a Scandinavian thriller. Narration not the best but got use to it over the course of the story. I liked the main character Anita Sundstrom and will give the next novel a listen to see how her character is developed. Good book if you like police procedure without blood and gore.
