Summary

Once upon a time, there was a guy who got so fed up with life that he resorted to murder and mayhem just to feel alive.

Lorenzo Gambini is bored. So f--king bored. Most people either annoy him or avoid him, afraid to face him. Figuratively. Literally. With his face partially disfigured, scarred, he looks every bit the monster the stories make him out to be: the notorious Scar. They say he's a sociopath. Maybe he's a psychopath. Whatever path he's on, people tend to stay far away from it.

Until one day, a young woman bumps right into him - a woman just as fed up with life, but for much different reasons. With a scarlet letter inked on her wrist and secrets buried deep in her soul, Morgan Myers is running from something...or maybe somebody. Lorenzo isn't quite sure. You can bet your ass he's going to figure it out, though.

Contains mature themes.

WHY MUST ALL GOOD THINGS COME TO AN END?!!Hands down my favourite series of books

If you’re somehow still reading reviews, debating whether it’s worth the read/ listen, JUST DO IT ALREADY I PROMISE YOU WILL NOT REGRET!!!

Lorenzo and Morgan are just the perfect characters and I freaking LOVED their dynamic, it was so powerful and felt a lot more realistic than most books (where I just end up rolling my eyes over how predictable and cliché! Ugh!)

Morgan isn’t the typical whiny, unfortunate, “virgin” pathetic little sop that most authors love to write, she’s quick, witty, fierce, feisty and a force of nature, and you truly invest in her success.
Whilst Lorenzo is just hilariously and utterly unhinged, the ultimate “bad boy” but make it “menacing man”, he just effortlessly radiates that powerful dangerous man vibe, and you kinda fall in love with his crazy, even encouraging him to be more crazy…plus I definitely cracked a few major LOLS at his dark humorous quips of his inner monologue!…it’s just so perfect!!!!!

Plus the narrator’s just freaking nailed their performances of the characters! I died and went to heaven with these books. Honestly, i was completely enthralled and consumed, I couldn’t stop, I just wanted more and more, chapter after chapter!
It’s like the author just delved into my mind and scratched all the right spots of the most thrilling fantasy, and then brought it to life!

I was so gutted when I finished this whole series, and it left me searching for another mafia/romance book that hits the same way this one did, but sadly I’ve still not found one that even comes half as close to this :(

…I wish I could listen to it for the first time all over again!!!

PLEASE MORE LIKE THIS I BEG, I BEG!!

Like a great box of chocs

This book really draws you in, dark and yet light, Sexy, sassy, witty. A twisty story -line to keep you on your toes. You will be holding your breath one minute, blushing the next and laughing out loud after that. You will love the characters not only for their written personalities but also their voices. The feisty Scarlet is shaded from blush pink to blood red with her multi faceted character well voiced by Kasha Kensington and Lorenzo or Scar as he's known is as dark and stormy as the rum he drinks neat but like all good rum there's a deep sweetness when you get past the burning heat and the superb Iggy Toma voiced life into him perfectly with his soft rich tones holding a subtle cynical undercurrent. If you want a side of dark drama with your romance that draws you in, keeps you listening and gets you rushing for the sequel then this is for you!

Amazing!!

This book is EXCEPTIONAL.!! OMG I did not expect this story at all I was totally enthralled from the start,it grabbed my attention and would not let go until the end. Lorenzo and Morgan's story is not an easy one and it is a very strange but oddly beautiful love story...because despite the rocky start they are falling in Love. Lorenzo Gambini is scarred from his past physically and mentally he wears that scar on his face, which has hardened him as a man. He has a reputation and you don't mess with him or there will be consequences,he is feared and he is bored with his life...he craves danger and excitement. Morgan Myers/Scarlett..is a stripper but she is on a mission she is hiding from a man who she fears and who loves to hate her.But he has something she wants and so she needs to find him so she take back what is hers. Lorenzo and Morgan's paths cross when she steals from him and Lorenzo seeks her out to get his money back...From that point on a relationship forms between them ,they spar, argue and fight with their words until one day their relationship becomes physical.. And wowsers they are all kinds of HOT and STEAMY when they get together...and they go from one extreme to the other one moment they act like lovers the next they act like enemies. But one thing is for sure the more time they spend in eachothers lives they begin to care for one another.I love Lorenzo he may be a bad guy but ultimately he does have a heart he has just been mistreated by the people who were supposed to love him.His caring side shows with the way he protects his brother Leo,who is the opposite of Lorenzo. Morgan/Scarlett has also had a terrible life being hurt by someone she trusted and thought loved her,she is now stronger and relentless in her mission to retrieve what is hers...She is fearless and Lorenzo doesn't scare her like he does other people. She stands up for herself which soemtimes gets her in trouble. The relationship that forms between them is honest and pure and I thought it was kind of special. I can't say anymore about this story because I would just give away the Amazing story that takes place between them...It really is a rollercoaster and I never ever guessed the twist that happens near the end...I was totally fooled in the best way. Iggy Toma and Kasha Kensington are the Narrators to this story and I have to tell you they are both unbelievably Phenomenal..Honestly I am so so glad I chose to listen to this audiobook because Iggy and Kasha made this story so much better with their voices telling the story, Kasha Kensington she blew me away with her performance her voice range from woman to man to a child she executed all of them perfectly...I loved it. Iggy Toma was the Ideal person to voice Lorenzo/Scar his voice matched perfectly to Lorenzo's sarcastic and dry sense of humour..he made me laugh at times with some of the retorts he made and Iggy Toma was truly Amazing at it. I totally highly recommend this audiobook it is a captivating listen. J.M Darhower has weaved such an intriguing, sexy, unconventional romance..I Love her writing and the rawness of her characters and stories...I was hanging onto her every word and now I am so eager for book two. Brilliant book. 5 Fantastic Stars.

Not a crime thriller, just erotica and violence

Listened to two hours of this, expecting a crime/thriller story line before giving up. Just erotica, violence and mysoginistic drivel, padded out with expletives. Has been put into the wrong descriptive category I think. Very glad i did not have to pay for this.

Yawn

I listened to over 4 hours of this drivel! No clue what has happened there doesn’t appear to be any actual plot.

The author clearly enjoyed 50 shades and wanted to copy that nonsense.

Dark and intriguing

To begin anyone considering reading/listening to this should read the author’s note as this could be very triggering for some. It’s a dark mafia romance, but where many of these type of romances don’t really have true bad guys, this one most certainly does.

This has great main characters, and where I find I’m often irritated by the female lead particularly I wasn’t here. For a start there is no real miscommunications or the usual vehicles for creating drama. The drama here is around the suspense, the violence and the darkness that surrounds their world. It’s really well written and has depth.

Morgan (Scarlet) is such a strong female character. As we learn she has been through and is going through a truly horrendous experience and yet not only can she still put one foot in front of the other she still has hope.

Lorenzo is the anti hero. Where sometimes such MMCs aren’t really that bad, or there is just hints of violence and demons, Lorenzo is everything you would expect. He is violent, cruel, bad tempered and a killer. His appearance isn’t just a facade, however he is by no means one dimensional. He’s extremely funny, with actual laugh out loud moments. He despises people in general, they annoy him to the point of killing them, literally, at times. And please make sure you know the difference between Star Wars and Star Trek if you want to remain in one piece. Yet he isn’t all bad. He does have a moral compass of sorts, he has rules that he follows and he does form relationships with some people, and where he does they tend to be strong and unbreakable. The question is though is he a bad person who does some good things, or is he a good person who does some bad things?

They first meet when Morgan pickpockets Lorenzo’s wallet. For some reason he doesn’t just kill her on the spot and the relationship starts from there.

There is much more to this though than a romance. There is suspense and an ongoing mystery which we do manage to untangle in the main by the end of this book. However there isn’t a resolution, and there is a cliffhanger so be prepared to move onto the second book if you want any sort of resolution.

The villains in this book are truly horrendous. Some not quite as bad as others but one is the most horrendous character you would come across in a book. Absolutely zero redeeming qualities. As stated above trigger warnings.

The narration is superb. The female narrator does a great job of Morgan as she isn’t soft or whiny, she also does a great job of the male character, the various accents and the little people who also appear. The male narrator is also fabulous. Plays Lorenzo with the appropriate detachment one might expect from such a character, without being in anyway monotone, and also is great when Lorenzo is going through the myriad of emotions he displays. He’s also great at the humour,

This was included in Audible plus but would have been worth a credit.

Dreadful

Every sentence contains the "f" word. Degradation of women and male aggression from the beginning. I'm surprised anyone would agree to narrate this book. There is no story. It's an excuse to verbalise abusive sex . Appalling.
