Summary

Inspiration for the Netflix Limited Series, Tales of the City

The second novel in the beloved Tales of the City series, Armistead Maupin's best-selling San Francisco saga.

The tenants of 28 Barbary Lane have fled their cozy nest for adventures far afield. Mary Ann Singleton finds love at sea with a forgetful stranger, Mona Ramsey discovers her doppelgänger in a desert whorehouse, and Michael Tolliver bumps into his favorite gynecologist in a Mexican bar. Meanwhile, their venerable landlady takes the biggest journey of all - without ever leaving home.

What’s with the pronunciation!

Excellent story! Great to go back to Barbary lane BUT………………… What’s with Cynthia Nixon’s pronunciation???? Halcyon was mangled every time! Like she was sounding out a word at the age of four! It was so jarring and every time I knew the name was coming up I’d find myself cringing! Piña colada was another one! Quite distracting.
However excellent depiction of the other characters. Especially Mother Mucca.
9/10.

Hal-ceee-on?

I read this book years ago and loved listening to Cynthia’s reading. However it’s Halcyon ˈhalsɪən’ not Hal-ceee-on

Fabulous!

Well, I really got into this 2nd book in the series, felt really in touch with the characters & love the devious goings on. Narration was perfect for this story.

Great story with colourful characters. A must read

Loved the book and can't wait to start the next one. This continuing soap-opera is entertaining on many levels

Love these books. Every one is a compelling treat.

Fabulous, engaging, evocative.
Beautifully read.
Wonderful how they draw a time and place so beautifully.
Just read them and become addicted to the world of Mrs. Madrigal.
