Summary

Agatha Christie’s most famous murder mystery, read by director and star of the film adaptation, Kenneth Branagh.

Just after midnight, a snowdrift stops the Orient Express in its tracks. The luxurious train is surprisingly full for the time of the year, but by the morning it is one passenger fewer. An American tycoon lies dead in his compartment, stabbed a dozen times, his door locked from the inside.

Isolated and with a killer in their midst, detective Hercule Poirot must identify the murderer – in case he or she decides to strike again.

Critic reviews

“Need it be said – the little grey cells solve once more the seemingly insoluble. Mrs Christie makes an improbable tale very real, and keeps her readers enthralled and guessing to the end.” Times Literary Supplement

“A brilliantly ingenious story.” Dorothy L. Sayers, Daily Herald

“Ingenuity at its height … the idea is utterly novel, the setting a model of realism, and the characters a versatile, attractive crew.” Woman’s Journal

Disappointing was expecting better

With her most famous book being read by such a thespian I wes expecting more from this narration. The narrative especially the first few chapters felt rushed,as though he was doing a practice read through before a scene. The accents were all over the place, which I don't think was helped by the strange voice he gave to the doctor,it was a wonder he hadn't lost his voice by the end! Although not terrible I now wish I had got the David suchet version

Brilliant.

Narrated so as to bring all the characters as a picture in my mind. Even down to the moustaches.

The original and very best “Who Dunnit”

Even though I knew the ending of this mystery it absolutely held me. I loved it all over again. A very special rendition of this much loved book. My goodness Agatha Christie was a very special author.

The narration is perfect...but the it would be! I do admit to seeing David Suchet in my mind’s eye though! I will be interested to see Kenneth Branagh’s film adaption.

KB is a master narrator.

Being the biggest fan of Hugh Fraser as a narrator of Christie novels I didn’t think anybody could match his superb and inimitable handling of characters. Hugh’s wealth of voices lends itself perfectly also as a very credible Poirot. The same, I’m delighted to say, can be said for Kenneth Branagh who provides a masterclass in each Poirot book he lends his outstanding talent to. Encore!!

Only Americans are offended

Fantastic story, those who don’t like certain characters perhaps don’t like looking on the mirror
