Enjoying the series……then this one came along !

Really thought I’d discovered a quirky new series. Was enjoying the characterisation of Jake Lassiter. Was impressed by Luke Daniels’s versatility as narrator. All going well until the excruciating trip to London. Not only did they cross the Atlantic but somehow went into a surreal time warp . … back to the 1940s, Nobody speaks like the lady professor and her mother with the ‘BBC English’ of Brief Encounter, anymore than we speak like Dick Van Dyke in Mary Poppins. Nor do we sit around in our silk outfits to take tea and Battenburg cake in the middle of the afternoon. The whole London escapade made me cringe , it was so bad and to my mind contributed nothing to the storyline, just turned it into an Ealing comedy farce.
I will stick with Jake Lassiter in the hope that this book was an unfortunate blip, and that the next one will restore my confidence.

Something went wrong. Please try again in a few minutes.
