Summary

The long-awaited, inspirational guide to life for a generation of black British women inspired to make lemonade out of lemons, and find success in every area of their lives.

‘This book is a gift for anyone who wants to better understand what Black women and girls are up against – and the tremendous resources they draw upon as they make their way in the world’ Sheryl Sandberg, COO of Facebook and founder of LeanIn.Org and OptionB.Org

Slay In Your Lane is a brilliant book about what it is like to be a woman, black and a Londoner in 2018. Everyone should read it’ Sadiq Khan

‘Black women today are well past making waves – we’re currently creating something of a tsunami. Women who look like us, grew up in similar places to us, talk like us, are shaping almost every sector of society.’

From education to work to dating, this inspirational, honest and provocative book recognises and celebrates the strides black women have already made, while providing practical advice for those who want to do the same and forge a better, visible future.

Illustrated with stories from best friends Elizabeth Uviebinené and Yomi Adegoke’s own lives, and using interviews with dozens of the most successful black women in Britain – including BAFTA Award-winning director Amma Asante, British Vogue publisher Vanessa Kingori and Olympic gold medallist Denise Lewis – Slay In Your Lane is essential listening for a generation of black women inspired to find success in every area of their lives.

A must for all...not just black women

Every chapter was informative and hit home to me as a professional black woman.
Really enjoyed the input from such a wide range of black women.

Eye opening

So well written. As a black woman living in England, it made me cry so much, feel angry, feel depressed, feel empowered, but still gave me hope, hearing from other black women that have succeeded. Put to paper so so much that I have thought, but didn't have the words to express.

Excellent with insightful observations!

I relate to this on so many levels. Many thanks to the authors of this book. As a black woman I struggled with so many things and wondered if anyone else so. It is a relief to realise I was not paranoid. And let's not forget that some black people within the system also do victimise other black people. I pray we all remain strong in the face of every adversity.

So thankful for these voices

I loved this book, probably one of my favourite books ever. I am not a black woman. As I white woman I am increasingly aware of the ways in which I contribute to our white supremacist society and having black God kids and a brown niece, I'm doing my up most to re-educate myself and become anti raceist. The book absolutely helped with that, it highlighted a host of areas I'd not considered and challanged thoughts I didn't know I had. It also reconfirmed the work I have to do for the sake of our future society.

Amazing Book

I absolutely love this book. I'm 31 years old and I related to every single topic discussed in this book. I'm so happy that my daughter who is 9 will have this book to read before she steps out into the real world. She will know how to Slay In Her Lane and will not experience half the things I did growing up!
