Dr. Barkley's books and lectures are terrific but this recording is not. Audible content for anyone who might have ADHD needs to be presented crisply. Unfortunately, this narration is sing-song and draggy, which comes across as patronizing, not credible and boring. Granted, you can increase the speed in the Audible app, but it's hard to take seriously anything narrated by Alvin the Chipmunk. (Dr. Barkley himself would have been the perfect narrator: he's quick paced and comes across as very direct.)

I am an adult who was recently diagnosed with ADHD. I found the book great in places but overall disappointing. The author spends many many chapters in the beginning transcribing interviews from adult ADHD patients he has treated over the years then explains how their stories and behaviors relate to specific ADHD diagnostic criteria. This may be helpful to some readers but I already know what the symptoms are and really wanted a more targeted way to address then. That type of info IS in the book and it's very helpful however it's often hard to isolate these approaches because of all the behavioral examples he gives. Also, most of the examples are of people making impulsive, often dangerous choices because of their ADHD. I have mainly the inattentive type and didn't relate to the stories of rampent drug/alcohol use and reckless sexual choices. If you are struggling with these types of issues then this book will truly be a wonderful resource . If they don't relate to your situation then you may find them annoying after awhile. Also, the author does a great job relaying a poignant personal story towards the end of the book that really helps readers understand that he understands what his patients deal with daily.
