Summary
A moving, thought-provoking and surprisingly humorous book which is both a description of a journey to death and a celebration of the act of living. Based on Clare Wise's blog, which she started when she was first diagnosed with cancer in 2013, Not That Kind of Love charts the highs and lows of the last three years of Clare's life. The end result is not a book that fills you with despair and anguish. On the contrary, Not That Kind of Love should be listened to by everybody for its candour and for its warmth and spirit.
Clare is an astonishingly dynamic, witty and fun personality, and her positivity and energy exude from every minute. As she becomes too weak to type, her brother - the actor Greg Wise - takes over, and the book morphs into a beautiful meditation on life and the necessity of talking about death. With echoes of Atul Gawande's Being Mortal and Cathy Rentzenbrink's The Last Act of Love, it is a very special listen that rejoices in the extraordinary and often underestimated sibling bond and the importance of making the most of the ordinary pleasures life has to offer.
As Greg Wise writes in the book: 'Celebrate the small things, the small moments. If you find yourself with matching socks as you leave the house in the morning, that is a cause for celebration. If the rest of the day is spent finding the cure for cancer, or brokering world peace, then that's a bonus.'

The book that made me aware”I’m not alone”
It was strange to read this book,so similar to exactly what I went trough with my ex husband for the past 3 years... How was this possible? Like a gift coming my way, just in time! !!My ex husband passed on 4 days after I finished the book:15/4-18
I got there in time,we had 4 days in peaceful, loving surroundings. Listening to Enya. We did it,this too. Together. No pain, just like a breeze passing trough... And he was on his way.
I so want to thank the writers and Rose!!! I will not be able to do that but know I am forever grateful. Somehow I hope you get to know that!
Thank you<3 from Inger

touching and yet so funny
I am a fiction reader so I stress that this is not the type of book I would ever go for but the name Greg Wise got me to read the summary which in turn encouraged me to listen to the sample and instantly I was drawn in. Clare's humour is what stands out for me and I found myself laughing a lot throughout her blog posts. She didn't spare the realities of life on chemo and radiation but the style of her writing and her wit made you willing to stay by her side as she was subjected to it all. I thought the laughing would stop when Greg took over but even in the darkest of moments there were smiles to be had.
This book is centred around family, close friends and the love shared between them and I think having one of the "A team" of friends as narrator really helped you to hear Clare despite it not being her voice. The pure love of her brother Greg and his honesty in what it takes to provide such care is wonderfully touching and raw. By the end I felt like I knew this woman, this family and yes the tears did leak out. Definitely recommend listening to this and make sure you have the pdf open as the photos really are part of the story.

So Moving and Thought Provoking
This beautiful book resonated with me mainly because my beloved big brother died nearly a year ago from prostate cancer at only 60.
It is beautifully written (and narrated) and leaves the listener with much positive things to think about( especially about living in the moment. For me this message affirms one of the things I've come to believe in recent months.

Utterly wonderful.
Such an incredible book.
It’s the story of Clare’s diagnosis of breast cancer and Greg becoming her full time carer.
Clare writes the first half of the book with such humour & generosity of spirit that you find yourself laughing uproariously in spite of the horrors she is enduring.
Greg’s half of the book is a wonderful meditation on what it means to care for, love and lose someone - that’s not a spoiler it’s clear from the beginning that there is no happy ending.
The harsh realities of treatment for breast cancer were such a shock to me. I had often heard people say that the cure for cancer is far worse than the disease, but this book really brought it home to me, without ever going too far into gory details.
It also made me so grateful that my mother’s cancer was diagnosed so late, that she never had to go through what Clare and sadly millions of others do each week.
For all it’s sadness it is an incredibly life affirming book. I would thoroughly recommend it, you will love, admire & weep for Clare by the end.

Touching and helpful
My twin brother died of lung cancer in July 2017. Thank you to Claire (in her absence) and Greg for giving me an insight into this disease, it's treatment warts and all, and for highlighting compassion fatigue. It has touched me, made me cry, and helped me fully understand what my brother and his family went through. It has helped me deal with my grief, thank you.

No better kind of love.
It's taken me a few months to listen to this. Not because it isn't incredible, powerful, beautifully narrated ( by both Rose and Greg) but I have recently lost a sister to this awful disease. Clare's determination to fight to stay and alive, combined with a super sense of humour made this such an emotional experience. The love that she and her brother shared, together with the rest of her "outlaw family" is the main thread of the book. It's love that counted for everything. RIP Clare.

Beautiful book about life and love
I decided to read this after seeing an excerpt in the Newspaper. I didn’t know much about Cancer but wanted to be better informed.
Clare’s outlook on her situation was nothing short of amazing. Greg’s strength in caring for her until the end was very touching. I was in tears by the end of the book but I would defy anyone not to be moved by the words and acts of love. Two inspirational human beings.

Brave, honest story of a journey, thank you Clare
What a privilege to be able to listen to Clare and Greg and the journey they made together, as Clare took on a battle with cancer, life is not fair, but she gave such a fight to keep her independence, and fought a battle that sadly took her away from her family, and friends, yet with an ironic sense of humour.

Absolutely marvellous and deeply heartfelt
An unexpected find. A personal blog/story that tells of life with terminal cancer. Claire and Greg both deserve medals for facing, coping, living and loving as they did. Two wonderful people. Actually angels. You made me cry (in a good way...) Much love.
