Summary

The world is messing with our minds. Rates of stress and anxiety are rising. A fast, nervous planet is creating fast and nervous lives. We are more connected yet feel more alone. And we are encouraged to worry about everything from world politics to our body mass index.

  • How can we stay sane on a planet that makes us mad?
  • How do we stay human in a technological world?
  • How do we feel happy when we are encouraged to be anxious?

After experiencing years of anxiety and panic attacks, these questions became urgent matters of life and death for Matt Haig. And he began to look for the link between what he felt and the world around him.

Notes on a Nervous Planet is a personal and vital look at how to feel happy, human and whole in the 21st century.

An important read.

I think some titles work best as books and others as audiobooks. This is one of the titles I believe was made for audiobook. It is such a great listen and I will be sure to re listen after I forget its important message. Matt Haig has blown up in the media the past few years and now I totally see why. His work is genius and I will most certainly be purchasing more of his work. I myself listened to this as someone recommended it to me when i was going through a phase of feeling anxious and it was one of the most fitting titles for me at that time. Bravo Matt Haig, you have a brilliant way with words and it is a title that makes the listener/reader feel less alone.

Insightful

This is a book that will help you accept your shortcomings, however bad you think they are. It will also help you to understand that you are not the only person with “irrational panic” or worries. We are human. We are enough. We have enough. Will Definitely come back to this title and read again.

Notes on a Nervous Planet

I really connected with Matt Haig Notes on a Nervous Planet. No-one really understands anxiety and panic attacks unless you have one.

"We aren't designed to live in the modern world and how technology can overload our brains. We're bombarded with too many choices and images such as marketing, consumer, work, environmental, news, and information overloads"

"Shopping centres is a deliberately stimulating environment designed not to calm or comfort merely to get us to spend money".

Fantastic food for thought

I personally find Matt Haig's philosophy on life one that I can really get on board with. I have enjoyed listening to this book whilst working and it's a gentle reminder to just "be", to enjoy life and let go of the guilt and stress associated with modern life. 5*

Good read but needs a professional narrator

The voice of the author was way to slow and at times depressing in what was a positive book. had to speed it up to 1.3x to be able to enjoy the book.
