Summary

The Omnian expeditionary fleet sails for the faraway place they call "the wall". The worlds of humankind have consolidated their resources to create a powerful armada to confront the alien federation.

During the Omnians' previous encounter with an alien fleet at the wall, the Nua'll comm sphere spoke to them in multiple languages. When the messages were deciphered by SADEs, the humans' digital friends, the Omnians realized two things. One, they would face a vast empire composed of hundreds of races, and, two, the Nua'll were not the leaders of the federacy. They had spoken of masters.

Multiple challenges faced Alex Racine, the Omnian leader, to cobble together the fleet he required. The Confederation, which was composed of many colonies, could produce ships, but most of its people lacked the will to fight. Haraken and New Terra were worlds with limited material production capability. But they produced individuals who were anxious to deliver a blow against the federation.

A debate raged over whether humans should flee, wait, or fight the onslaught of giant spheres, which ravaged humankind's worlds, and the probes that spied on them. It was Alex Racine's choice to confront the alien race. Anything less was only delaying the inevitable.

The Omnians knew nothing about what they would find beyond the wall, where the federation's enormous empire lay. Alex knew he couldn't defeat the federacy in a long series of protracted engagements. His plan was to attempt to conquer and divide. He just needed to find the right sentient race for his idea to work.

Another engaging episode!

As a veteran of many space conflict stories, the saga of the Silver Ships is an easier listen than others in the Humans vs Space vs Aliens vs Human failings.
These books are true delight.
They offer a vision of a future where kindness and consideration for others triumphs over the selfishness of those who blight our current civilisation.
The usual self-serving politicians, conspiracy nuts, and so on, are deservedly sidelined and dealt with.
It's a battle of decency over abuse and oppression: Good vs Evil, with Evil on the losing side.

For me, the saga of the Silver Ships, offers a vision of hope for the Future of Humanity, without being overly saccharine.

Grover Gardner is an exceptional narrator. The choice to use him for this series was a clever one.
He superb skills and smooth voice really adds something special to the pictures painted by the author.
I applaud whomever chose him to deliver this audiobook to my ears.

The books in this series are not Hard Science-Fiction. They offer a lighter touch on the obstructing physics of our universe.
If you are happy with that, you will likely enjoy this series as a light listen.

My only negative comments come from some of the pronunciations (as is usual for me. Sorry).
The implication from the story is that a lot of the names used have a French connection or history. As such, some of the name pronunciations truly grate. Here's two examples -

"Bellemonde" is NOT pronounced "Belly-Monde."
It should be closer to "BellMonn."

"Descartes" is NOT "DeKarTez."
I suggest that "Dey-Karr," is a closer pronunciation.

If you speak French, this will may get on your nerves.

Otherwise, loved the book.
