Summary

When NYPD detective Callum Doyle’s partner is murdered, and then his replacement is also brutally killed, suspicion falls on Doyle himself. Then he receives an anonymous message: This is just the beginning. Anyone he gets close to will die - and that includes his family.

Desperate to find out who is responsible, but with his every move putting others in danger, Doyle has to ask himself: how low would he sink in order to get his life back?

Series that could have legs

As a fan of crime thrillers and especially Roy Grace, Harry Bosch and Logan McRae, I was looking for a new series to get into as I'm up to date with all the others. I was pleasantly surprised with this debut outing for Callum Doyle. This series shows promise and could develop into a long running winner for David Jackson. Already downloaded the next instalment. Keep them coming.

Disappointed after reading A Tapping at my Door

I thought I'd try this after really enjoying A Tapping at my Door by the same author. I can't believe it was written by the same man. Dont know if it's cause the first book was set in uk and read by an English narrator that I could relate to it more (I'm from uk), but the story, writing style and narration style just didn't draw me in. I found it a struggle to listen to and only sat it out so as not to waste a credit; in fact this is the first time I've increased listening speed as the standard speed added to the pain! After the first book I thought I'd discovered a new author to follow but don't think I'll try any more books now.

Very disappointing

I did not finish this Audible because of the narration. I do not wont to hear it it read without any changes of accent or tone apart from the occasional lapse into someone who sounded like Clint Eastwood. Can I suggest the narrator listens to Phillip Glennister narrating the Strike novels to realise how an Audible book should be.

Not my favourite

I really like thus author but thus isn't my favourite. I started day dreaming on several occasions and had to go back again and again.

A lot of promise but dull ending

The story was good initially with complex character links and a view from the killer’s perspective. It kept you wondering who it was…personally the big reveal was a boring anticlimax and it ended badly from a good start.

Enjoyable and intriguing

Having enjoyed Jackson's Body books, I though I'd try one of his New York ones. It was enjoyable, with a good main character, and an original story keeping me guess ing until the end well read too.

Disappointing

Gave up on this sadly. Absolutely loved the Nathan Cody series, but this was not good. Couldn't get into the story, the accent drove me bonkers and I had no idea what was going on to be honest. What a shame.

Disappointed

After having read previous books By this author I was so disappointed. This book was just so typical of American crime books and lacks the clever twists and turns of the British based stories by David Jackson which I thoroughly enjoyed.

Not nearly as good as previous books

Difficult to listen to because of the accent.
I’m no innocent, but the gratuitous swearing was unpleasant.
