Summary

Meet Tannie Maria: a woman who likes to cook a lot and write a little.

One Sunday morning, as Maria savours the breeze through the kitchen window whilst making apricot jam, she hears the screech and bump that announces the arrival of her good friend and editor, Harriet. What Maria doesn't realise is that Harriet is about to deliver the first ingredient in two new recipes (recipes for love and murder) and a whole basketful of challenges.

Wonderfully evocative and enjoyable

Congratulations to Audible for selecting such a great narrator. This book would be hudgely irritating without a genuine South African narrator and it is a joy to hear all the local vernacular and vocabulary correctly pronounced for a change. Moreover Sandra Prinsloo has delighted my wife and myself with a compelling delivery - much more from this narrator please.
The story itself is wonderfully evocative of South Africa. It somehow manages to unite its warmth and friendliness at the same time it exposes its more brutish side. Good story and believable characters that readers can care about.
Great job.

A novel take on the crime story

A gentle listen full of wonderful characters, humour, romance and mouth watering recipes!
Tannie Marie is very warm and likeable and the idea of an agony aunt who issues advice in the form of recipes works so well. I loved hearing the story told in the authentic language, this narrator really brought it alive.
Will definitely be trying some of the recipes!

The full package

I’ve discovered this quite late but hopefully in time for another instalment?! Definitely need more of this well written, gripping, mouth watering, entertainment… rounded off nicely with the perfect narration.
