Summary

You can believe because of the evidence, not in spite of it. For the first 35 years of his life, J. Warner Wallace was a devout atheist. After all, how can you believe a claim made about an event in the distant past for which there is little forensic evidence? Then Wallace realized something. Christianity was a lot like the cold cases he solved as a homicide detective - cold cases that turned out to have enough evidence, eyewitnesses, and records to solve. When Wallace applied his skills as an expert detective to the assertions of the New Testament, he came to a startling realization: the case for Christianity was as convincing as any case he'd ever worked as a detective.

A Book to Interest Everyone! Agnostic to Christian

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes. In fact I did on this occasion - twice!

Any additional comments?

I've listened to this for the second time now (& listened to it twice, back to back on this occasion). My first foray into this, was made out of curiosity. I found it interesting at that time, it was one of many Apologetics books that I was reading.

This time however, I was listening to it on purpose. I've also bought the book. I intend to contact Mr Wallace via his outreach programme.

I've also read, The Case For Christ, written by Lee Strobel. He gives the foreword. These books do 2 things:
1. If you don't believe in God. If you have a problem with God as opposed to a problem with 'The Church', whichever church that may be, this book covers all of those issues.
2. If you believe in God, but don't really know why, or how to say why, especially to those of your family or friends who jeer, mock, deride and sneer about Christianity; then this book will give you answers!

I also intend to go over this again, with the book. To highlight the facts that are relevant to my struggles/witnessing. So that, when I'm tongue tied, I am able to refer to a proven, researched, intellectual reason for my belief. Because I've found that, saying all of the good, wonderful, miraculous things that God has done for me, is insufficient for some of my godless friends. They seek to blind me with science! I am not a scientific convert, but I totally 'got' C. S. Lewis's Mere Christianity. He started me on the road to Apologetic Christianity and here I am, with him, Strobel and Wallace.

I thank God for these men. I thank God for Jesus Christ. Grace & Peace x❤️x

Enjoy.

Comprehensive, rational, intellectually satisfying

Any additional comments?

Wow. I am stunned how solid this authors reasoning is. I picked this up mildly interested thinking it was a repackaging of the "case for..." books, but wow, I was delightfully wrong! His discussions are fascinating weaving in experiences from his detective career, but more importantly, he enumerates threads of reasoning with such precision, accuracy, and integrity of thought that I can't merely say this book was intellectually satisfying...this book is a intellectually majestic!

I am a student of truth where ever I find it...science or faith...whatever holds up to my own honest scrutiny and I purposely keep an open mind letting reasonable new evidence in. On my journey I have have become an open follower of Jesus. I also believe in evolution, really old universe etc... I have plenty of questions about the Bible although as a massive collection of epic literature tracing the evolution of human consciousness through time...it continues to grow on me. These positions are tough in our sound bite self righteous culture.

I've devoured all sorts of material regarding the tensions and controversy between science and faith. I've been particularly impressed by Bart Ehrman's prodigious work (against faith btw) and the powerful insights from Andy Stanley(gotta check him out) and Dr Bill Creasy, but this author brings something truly unique to this thought space. I never thought a case this strong could be made for belief. Regardless of which side of the fence you currently are on, for you who honestly search for understanding, I think you'll love the examination of evidence and the considerations of the many explanations.

Marty

Essential reading for the Christian apologist. The way that Wallace relates police techniques for gathering and evaluating evidence to biblical evidence makes this an easy book to read. I especially liked the Chain of Custody chapters that explain biblical evidence that is not known by most Christians today.
