Publisher's Summary

In one of the best available books on the topic, Franklin explains the spiritual power of fasting and offers a deeper understanding of God's plan for fasting and the benefits available to those who participate. Those who seek God through fasting can expect tremendous rewards both for their personal lives and the church. They will see breakthroughs in many areas, such as healing, finances, bondages broken, and children set free.
Jesus Himself fasted because He knew some supernatural realities could not be released in any other way. For that reason alone, Christians should make fasting a common practice.

Very good Christian book

This book explores the spiritual aspects of fasting for Christians and defines why fasting should be part of the life of the Christian.

There is a lot of practical advice on how to go about it and what to expect from it. There is a good deal of exposition of scriptures showing how fasting was used by many more Bible heroes than we might at first call to mind. It is a thoroughly Bible-based introduction to fasting suitable for a wide range of Christians of most denominations.

Right now fasting for dietary purposes has become very popular with things like the Intermediate Fasting diet. This book underlines how fasting for spiritual purposes differs from purely dietary fasting, although the two do not necessarily contradict each other. A fast is like an "all day prayer" as Jentezen puts it, and greatly serves to focus the mind on God and increase our intimacy with God. This gives us access to far greater blessings than just a dietary fast.

This is a book of discipleship, aimed at those who are Christians. It has nothing in it which would offend others who fast, but is written to readers on the assumption that they are already committed Christians. The author also makes it clear that fasting in no way defines whether or not a person is saved. This is a way of increasing blessing and intimacy with God and a more powerful prayer life for a person already saved by believing in Jesus.
