Summary

The women of the Bible have a strong, relevant message for women today that has been lost underneath layers of traditional interpretations and the expectation that God does his most important work through men. Crucial dimensions of their lives have been muted, forgotten, or passed over. Their strong voices are silent at a time when women are searching for answers that will hold up under the pressures and challenges confronting them today. This book brings the women of the Bible into the 21st century by recovering their powerful message for contemporary women.

Disappointed

I was hoping this book would be more about the women's [in the Bible] stories. If you don't know their background or who they were you won't follow the author. The book focus on the value of women and has a repetitive message that "Women count" . I wish I hadn't bought it.

Quite European-American Fundamentalist, ew!

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

Material embarrasingly retro.

What could Carolyn Custis James have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

Too EuroAm, too fundy, too accepting of male dominaion. Needs rewrite.

What didn’t you like about Ruth Bloomquist’s performance?

was okay

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Disappointment (I really wanted to like it). It seemed so condescending to women.
