I am looking to increase my devotion to Mary to deepen my relationship with Christ so that I may become a more effective instruments of Grace, for the Glory of God and the good of myself and neighborhood. I found this book helpful in this endeavour.

This is a very impressive book. Chris does a great job explaining Mary and her role in Christianity. He does a fantastic job explaining, in brief, the four most controversial dogmas of the Catholic faith regarding Mary; something that is not easy to find with other authors. He also discusses and explains Marian Apparitions; what they are and what they are not.
He starts the book asking three questions. What is Marian devotion all about? Why should we care about Mary? And if we do have a reason.... what is the best way to approach this subject? Chris approaches this subject is a very understandable and straight forward way. I particularly recommend this book for Catholics. Many of my Catholic brothers and sisters lack their own understanding of Mary in the plan of salvation; let alone our many protestant brothers and sisters that don't understand why the Church has such high regard for Mary.
From this book you might presume that Chris is a cradle Catholic. What his book doesn't mention is that Chris, in fact, grew up protestant and has a very interesting conversion story. His background gives this book even more depth and makes it even more interesting.
I highly recommend this book.

Much more interested in the dogma of the Church than in Mary. For example, in the chapter on apparitions the author mainly discussed how apparitions are approved rather than the details major recognized apparitions and what we can learn from them. He seemed pretty dismissive of them also. Similarly after a few sentences of examples of Saints that venerated Mary, he discusses the idea of Saints and our relationship to them, not a study of how Saints venerated Mary. Overall, very disappointed.
