Summary

For Will and his mother, going to Indonesia isn't just a holiday. It's an escape, a new start, a chance to put things behind them - things like the death of Will's father.

And to begin with, it seems to be just what they both needed. But then Oona, the elephant Will is riding on the beach, begins acting strangely, shying away from the sea. And that's when the tsunami comes crashing in, and Oona begins to run. Except that when the tsunami is gone, Oona just keeps on running.

With nothing on his back but a shirt and nothing to sustain him but a bottle of water, Will must learn to survive deep in the jungle. Luckily, though, he's not completely alone...

He's got Oona.

Superb

This has kept the family of adults and two girls (11 and 9) enthralled through some long holiday car journeys. A sad start but absolutely gripping in the jungle.

Never wrong with a Murpurgo book

An enchanting tale, despite the fact that it has a very sad start.

Michael Murpurgo books are in the children’s category on audible, persoanlly I think this needs to be reviewed as so many people are missing out on this amazing author who can enchant young and old alike.

There is an added bonus that Mr Murpurgo narrates this book, so often this can be a recipe for disaster but not with this author.

I have listened and read to so many of his books and he never disappoints.

My favourite book in the world

The subtle life lessons and hints in this book are amazing. This is a book anyone in the world can relate to. No matter what background. Fully, fully recommend. Especially for little ones (: it’s lovely.

AMAZING!

I love this book because it describes the jungle really well. The souds of the jungle are the fruit bats flying over the trees and monkey swinging in the trees. The smells are the fruits like coconuts, mangoes and melon and the rain and some fires. It's the best book ever and I love the author.
Molly aged 8.

A book well worth reading

This story is an excellent read for children and adults. A compelling read from start to finish and throws light on the threats to the rain forests and its any inhabitants.

Good family car-trip story

Entertained whole family, though possibly the language is too adult for our kids. Our 7 yr old girl became more captured once in the jungle. Our 6yr old girl lost attention often unless we explained it to her. Nevertheless successful, interesting, and topical. Would recommend it!
