Summary

London, 1786. Lord Henri-Antoine has returned from the Grand Tour to a life of privilege and excess. A vast inheritance allows him every indulgence, free from responsibility. Yet, Henri-Antoine maintains a well-ordered existence, going to great lengths to conceal an affliction few understand and many fear.

Miss Lisa Crisp is a penniless orphan who relies on the charity of relatives to keep her from the poorhouse. Intelligent and unflappable, Lisa will not allow poverty to define her. She leads a useful life working among the sick poor.

Under startling circumstances, Henri-Antoine and Lisa meet. There is instant attraction. When they find themselves attending the same wedding in the country, Henri-Antoine offers Lisa a scandalous proposition, one she should refuse but yearns to accept. Following her heart could ruin them both.

A standalone romantic adventure set against the backdrop of Treat, ancestral home of the dukes of Roxton. Satyr's Son will delight fans of the series with cameos by many beloved characters, while new listeners will discover the myriad pleasures and glittering aristocratic world of the Roxton family through the fresh eyes of newcomer Lisa Crisp. Satyr's Son is a Cinderella story with a heartwarming happily ever after.

Best audiobook yet in the Roxton family saga!

I have listened to the Roxton family saga multiple times and every new audiobook is better than the last - Satyr’s son is no exception. The beautifully crafted love story, so delightfully written that you can visualise every character and scenario, is narrated by the supremely talented Alex Wyndham. Mr Wyndham can narrate dialogue like no one else, and the characters are easy to distinguish and to picture. The story is engaging and at times heartbreaking, but ultimately uplifting and exactly what the audience wants (and needs!) Henri-Antoine is a brooding young man from one of the premier families in England with an illness that would have been the cause of gossip and scandal, and Lisa Crisp is a practical and beautiful but poor and unconnected young woman. Their paths cross unexpectedly, and fate brings them back together, thanks to an old school friend of Lisa’s. Visualising Lisa trying to find her place in a world so far from her own is a joy, and the listener is with her every step of the way. The book introduces us to wonderful new characters, but brings back all our beloved friends from the saga. Lucinda Brant is a very talented author, I love her books and her characters - and the partnership with Alex Wyndham is quite the dream team. If I could give Satyr’s son more than 5 stars I most definitely would! A must listen for fans of historical romance.

Another classic!

Just loved this, another wonderful book by the amazing Lucinda Brant. Her attention to detail is fabulous and together with the brilliant Alex Wyndham makes a formidable duo.
So lovely to revisit the Roxton family and catching up with their lives and loved hearing of Henri-Antoine's story.
I do so hope this isn't the end of the series, there are so many other characters that deserve their own story to be told and I don't think I could ever get enough of Antonia and her family.

Well done both Lucinda Brant for the story and Alex Wyndham for bringing it alive

Absolutely loved it

Except for the beginning I loved every second of it. I took a bit long to get into it as the beginning was bit boring. But as it picked up I couldn't wait to get back to it each time I had to stop listening. Especially towards the end, I couldn't wait to see how it would end.
The narrator was brilliant as always.
I will definitely be listening to this whole series again.

A gentle story.

We have know the hero and his friend through other books of the family.
The heroine is unknown but her family connection have played a part in this saga.
Though far apart in rank, they meet when this is irrelevant, only kindness and caring count.
It was love at second sight, but first they both need to recognise it. Then overcome the obstacles in their path.
Though this isn't an unabridged story as bits are missing from my original copy, the picture also has changed.

Somewhat interesting

You can tell when a novel doesn’t quite follow the “rules” of a classic plot line, where certain things happen at certain stages so that the reader is swept along on an exciting journey. This book loses momentum somewhere around the middle, and the characters aren’t strong enough to carry it.

This was the first “sweet” romance I’ve read, and [spoiler ahead] it doesn’t make sense to me that sex scenes are omitted when them having sex is important for the story. Not that I need pages of detail, but it feels juvenile and... what’s the word — prissy?... to have them suddenly wake up in bed together like in an old movie.

Some things didn’t pay off, like the mean cousins not getting their comeuppance, or her French heritage linking to something.

And are we supposed to believe that she and her friend haven’t seen each other in 2 years and have barely spoken, but she’s her maid of honor?!

I listened to this because I liked the narrator on another book, and he was great again.

Thoroughly enjoyable

I listened in one day as I enjoyed the book so much. Much is made of Bridgerton but Roborough is far more enjoyable.

Wow !

Wow, what more is there to say? Such detail, such characters, such action, such drama and all set perfectly within it's period and genre. Congratulations to this writer. There is nothing in this book Jane Austen wouldn't be happy to pen or proclaim as her own. On top of all this praise is the truly fantastic narration which breaths such life and vigour into this story. Each MC has a unique voice, which enhances our understanding and appreciation of them. As an aficionado of Austen and Heyer I am so happy to have discovered this author (by accident). Can't wait to listen to it again. SUCH A PLEASURE

A wonderful love story!

This is #5 of the series which is best read in order, except that Amazon got it wrong and Noble Satyr should be #1.

It is one of the most beautiful love stories that I have read.

It is about Henri-Antoine who is the second son of a duke, very well aware of his position, gorgeous and a shocking rake. He also happens to be afflicted by epilepsy which understandably affects his behaviour.

Lisa Crisp is an orphan and badly treated by her relatives (Cinderalla comes to mind).  Her aunt's husband (a doctor), however, tries to be as kind as he can and she works closely with him in his medical  practice.

Lisa is a very caring person, has a delightful sense of humour and doesn't put up with any nonsense, except of course from her horrid aunt and cousin.

By chance, H-A and Lisa meet and from then on, the story gets more and more interesting.  It is  beautifully woven and I won't tell you more as that would give the game away, except to say that the ending is delightful.

I am so sad that the saga has come to an end as it was a truly magical read.
