Publisher's Summary

Nalini Singh steps back into the shadows of her heartbreakingly original world where angels rule, vampires serve, and the innocent can pay the greatest price of all….Vampire hunter Elena Deveraux and her lover, the lethally beautiful archangel Raphael, have returned home to New York only to face an uncompromising new evil. A vampire has attacked a girls' school - the assault one of sheer, vicious madness - and it is only the first act. Rampant bloodlust takes vampire after vampire, threatening to make the streets run with blood. Then Raphael himself begins to show signs of an uncontrolled rage, as inexplicable storms darken the city skyline and the earth itself shudders. The omens are suddenly terrifyingly clear. An ancient and malevolent immortal is rising. The violent winds whisper her name: Caliane. She has returned to reclaim her son, Raphael. Only one thing stands in her way: Elena, the consort who must be destroyed...

Good third book

I enjoyed this book, not as much as the first two, as the plot wasn't as interesting. It felt very much the same old. It was still good though.
I love Elena and Raphael and their continuing story but am looking forward to listening to the other characters stories.

The narrator was one again fabulous. I love her tone. I'm so glad she narrates the entire series.

Enjoyable but could be better

I like this world Nalini has created and am enjoying this series arc unfold, though I think this book after all the build up should have had more of his mother than we saw towards the end. I know it's left for a future novel but still , I feel somewhat cheated, the whole book is geared up to this moment and then hardly anything is said between mother and son, nothing happens of the threat laid out towards Elena, and the book is over - there could have and should have been more easily without loosing the arc into another novel.
