As usual Victor Bevine does an outstanding job as the narrator. That doesn't need to be explained. But this book was truly fantastic. The sense of adventure was lost after a certain point in the entire series, this was a fresh new start, with the same characters I grew to love. But it is not stale, not just a rehash. Each character has grown even more than before, and in a sense, it's like I'm back in the world of the Icewind Dale trilogy, where the five, no six, companions of the hall are gathered together to become a force to be reckoned with. I haven't been so happy to have them all fighting together again, no feelings holding them back from doing what they all truly love best. And their ability to adapt to everyone's new talents, and make the once godly companions of the hall, into an even more devastating force.
The action was pretty slow at the start, but the story was very well told and allowed for me to, once again, appreciate the writing talents of my still favorite Author of all time. The story left me wanting more, wanting the second book in this saga. It had set so many things in motion that I am all too excited to come into fruition. It seems as if Bob had taken into consideration the mishap he had with the transition saga, and decided to make the story fresh again. Even I had started to feel like the tales had begun to stale. That was until the great Ghost King, which focused less on story, and more on the action and desperation. Then came the neverwinter saga, there I had thought I couldn't be more impressed with his writing. Then I read the companions, and night of the hunter. Needless to say, he proved me wrong with Night of the Hunter.
Truly an astounding book, and worth the read.
