Summary

Rodrick is a con man, as charming as he is cunning. Hrym is a talking sword of magical ice, with the soul and spells of an ancient dragon. Together, the two travel the world parting the gullible from their gold and freezing their enemies in their tracks. But, when the two get summoned to the mysterious island of Jalmeray by a king with genies and elementals at his command, they'll need all their wits and charm if they're going to escape with the greatest prize of all - their lives.
From Hugo Award winner Tim Pratt comes a tale of magic, assassination, monsters, and cheerful larceny, set in the award-winning world of the Pathfinder roleplaying game.

Same quality hi-jinks, different narration

After listening to Liar's Blade, I immediately bought this and another Tim Pratt novel because I was so impressed. It is easily one of my favorite listens in my library now and recommend you listen to that first above any other Pathfinder Tales novels.

The story is still good and liked it, but Liar's Blade I felt was better. Roderick again gets involved in situations that relies heavily on his charm, wit, and bluffing to keep his head. Most of these situations find him, but he hardly needs it as he already has a reputation and many enemies by his past deeds.

Cons: I expected the same narrator, William Dufris. Steve West's narration only made me wish it was still Durfis because he was perfect for the part and is one of the reasons it sold me on Liar's Blade. West had a very narrow range of voices whereas Dufris' was far more distinct and added so much more to the characters that brought them to life and made the story that much better. I hope there will be more adventures with Roderick and Hrym, but PLEASE bring back Dufris!

Gold, treachery, and magical talking swords!

A solid little adventure set in the Pathfinder Role Playing world. You don't have to be a fan of the game to enjoy the tale of Rodrick and his sarcastic magic sword, Hrym. Great narration.
