Publisher's Summary

It only takes a drop to change a world. It only takes a kiss to change a lifetime.
Poison is a beautiful retelling of the Snow White story which takes all the elements of the classic fairy-tale that we love (the handsome prince, the jealous queen, the beautiful girl and, of course, the poisoning) and puts a modern spin on the characters, their motives and their desires.
It's fun, contemporary, sexy, and perfect for fans of Once Upon a Time, Grimm, Snow White and The Huntsman and more.
Read by Katie Scarfe, produced by Peter Rinne.

What the Critics Say

Poison is Pinborough's take on Snow White, and while all the recognisable furniture is there, she takes the story in directions that would have Walt Disney's (apocryphally) frozen head spinning in its cryogenic chamber. Loads of fun and very saucy with it.” (Independent on Sunday)

Great, except for two things

Lovely new take on the Sleeping Beauty story, as told from the perspective of the Queen, huntsman and prince. Also, well narrated.

But you should know these two things:
1) it has a very strange and unsatisfying ending. I don't know if this is a series and it's 'to be continued', but I wasn't happy.
2) It reads like a nice YA book for teens, with well-handled, subtle allusions to sex, and then suddenly dumps you into one chapter with really graphically-described sexual encounters, before becoming all subtle again. Very strange! And something to bear in mind before you buy it for a kid or younger teen.

Utter rubbish!

What would have made Poison better?

A better ending

Would you ever listen to anything by Sarah Pinborough again?

probably not

Would you be willing to try another one of Katie Scarfe’s performances?

possibly

Any additional comments?

for most of the story it is just the standard Sleeping Beauty tale with a few expletives thrown in. Although badly paced it is a "passing the time" listen until the author tries to get clever and it just turns into a mess.
