Summary

FROM THE ICE....

A mammoth, flash frozen in solid ice 10,000 years ago is brought to the surface by a team of scientists. An act of sabotage frees the giant from its icy tomb and reveals the secret held inside.

OUT OF THE MAMMOTH....

The body of an ancient woman, cloaked in furs, slides out of the mammoth's belly. But it is not the woman that holds the team's attention - it is the object she is clutching: a device created by an advanced civilization.

THE HUNT IS ON....

The device is accidentally activated, summoning forces who seek its destruction. It is the key to mankind's salvation and freedom from the sinister force hiding behind the curtain, pulling the strings, and leading humanity towards destruction.

Critic reviews

"Jeremy Robinson's novel Raising the Past is a rollicking Arctic adventure that explores the origins of the human species. Written in a solid cinematic style, it starts with the excavation of a frozen mammoth in the wilds of the Canadian tundra and ends with a pitched battle for the future of mankind. A story not to be missed!" (James Rollins, best-selling author of Altar of Eden)
" Raising the Past by Jeremy Robinson is a taut thriller that zooms. It's a wonderful mix of prehistoric intrigue, a modern-day love story, and a futuristic conspiracy bound to envelop any reader. Highly recommended." (Jon F. Merz, author of the Lawson Vampire series)

Constant excitement

Wow I couldn’t stop listening. Perhaps it was my mood but this story was just what I needed to break the dumps of 14 day self imposed lock in.
You can only wash the car so many times before you need a rest and this story was a friend when you most need one.

Lots of action. Enough plot.

This book is waiting to be turned into an action movie. There is a strong plot, there are some overt relationships and interpersonal struggles (they are not subtle and more serve as plot devices than character development). It is what I’d term soft sci fi since there is little focus on the aliens and their tech - just enough to support the plot twists. Don’t want to give too much away but it wasn’t a very satisfying ending for me. One of those leave it open ones (which I gather some prefer!)

Fast paced action

This story takes lots of twists and turns along the way always keeping you on your toes and leaving you gripped until the last words. Characters were believable and not one dimensional, so the story had a certain level of depth to it for an action adventure story. Worth the credit for sure.

Loved the narration of Jeffrey Kafer

A fully intact woolly mammoth is discovered frozen in the Canadian arctic. When it is excavated, a woman is found within the mammoth's stomach, the archaeologists discover the object the woman clutches in her hands.
Eve and Eddy are teamed up again with their usual crew to set upon the raising of the perfectly preserved mammoth and now a perfectly formed woman. The device she's holding is certainly not of this world, nor her time period.

Brilliant action.

Average story, well presented.

Disclaimer: I was provided a copy of this book, free of charge, in exchange for an honest review..

The thing that I've always liked about Jeremy's work is his monsters. Be it Kaiju, Gargoyles, Hydras or any one of the other amazing creatures he includes in his works. It was therefore with great excitement that I came to see what the marrying of a woman frozen in prehistory and some form of ancient civilisation could offer.

What I found was a war between two races of aliens and their battle to control or lead mankind for their own aims. This leads to many chases, battles and the discovery of wonderfully imagined ideas of weapons created to suit the era where the Aeros and Feros found themselves.

I liked some parts of the book, there is a brilliantly scene early on with an attempted assassination and the sense of tension can be cut with a knife but, aside from some twists, the box was just pretty humdrum to me. I did like the final revelations and how the story was 'wrapped up' but I just couldn't help but feel I was expecting more than I found here. As always though, Jeffrey Kafer does an amazing job of voicing the two main characters and gives the foes a sufficiently dangerous manner and voice.

So not my favourite book from Jeremy but an ok book none-the-less.

Just ok

I liked the concept of this story, but it was just ok for me. I also wasn't a fan of the romance aspect of the book which didn't come across well.

I was given this book for free of my own choosing and voluntarily left this review.

Good book

This was a good book, not however the great book I would have liked. It felt rather dull at times, though the ending was solid.
