Thoroughly engaging.

This was recommended to me by a friend who I'm fairly sure I now owe a large favour.

It's narrated very well, emotion coming through when appropriate, though the action sequences can feel a little flat in the delivery. The narrators accent feels entirely appropriate to the character.
The story almost lost my interest once or twice in the middle, as I felt it took heavy inspiration from other popular works and the parallels were strong enough to almost put me off. I'll not spoil anything by mentioning which parts, as the first third of the story has enough tension without me spoiling it. By the end, I was very glad I'd stayed with it.
The main character stays true to himself, and his arc through the story feels natural. He makes mistakes, throughout the story, but learns from them as he goes. He's not perfect, though he's still the hero of the piece, so is more capable than others around him.
Overall, I'd certainly recommend it, and I'll be going through the sequels quickly enough.

A great read :)

I found this book to be a great listen, very much a battle royale/hunger games style of story. Not too much science fiction which is just right for me. Pulled on my heart strings a few times.
The narrator was also very good, I enjoyed listening to his performance, he had good pacing and excellent tone.
Overall, loved this book :)
