Did Jason Damron do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?
regarding the narration, it grew on me. my first thought was william shatner. a lot of people kind of laugh at his overacting as captain kirk on star trek. to apply it to the narrator, i thought he was overacting.

i'm a zombie apocylapse junkie, and i'll listen to almost any zombie story so when audible recommended this book, i clicked on it to read the summary and listen to the sample. neither really caught my attention, but i had a few hours to burn so i decided to give it a try b/c i could always return it. plus at $10, it's pretty expensive for such a short story. however by the time i finished listening to it, i downloaded the next installment b/c i was intrigued by what would happen next.
the story takes place in austin, texas, and most of the action is centered around the university there. the author went to school there, and uses his knowledge of the area to build the story.
i can't say much without spoiling the plot, but what i can say is that the plot is unique in that it's a little bit different than what i've listened to lately, and different is usually good.
even though slow burn is a really short story at 3 and 1/2 hours, it packs a punch. a lot happens in that short time.
as the author states, this is the first book in a 6 part series. as an initial outbreak story, it's pretty good. it captures the confusion and fear of what's happening. there's a lot of action, but there are well-timed pauses to let the listener and characters catch their breath. the story ends at a good place, and i'm eagerly awaiting to see what happens next.
a little bit about me...at the moment, all of the t.v. shows i watch are either on hiatus or are over. so audio books are one of my main sources of entertainment. so, i'm always purchasing extra credits and buying books. i found slow burn worth the $10. i was thoroughly entertained by it. so if you're like me, then this is a good way to be entertained for a short time.
if you're new to the zombie genre or don't want to expend a credit on such a short story, put it in your wish list to come back to to see if an omnibus version is released in the future, or if it goes on sale. there are a lot of good zombie books, and this one is kind of expensive. if you're interested, then please check my reviews b/c i reviewed a bunch of 'em.

unfortunately I will not listen to the other books in this series. the reader spoke to fast I could feel my blood pressure rising each time I listened.
