Publisher's Summary

Meet Shaman Bond, aka Eddie Drood, scion of the ancient Drood family. He is devoted to protecting humanity from the forces of darkness. Protected by the secret weapon received at birth by all members of the Drood family - a magical gold torc (i.e., a neck ring) that turns into a suit of nearly impervious golden armor - Eddie faces arcane dangers with healthy doses of wry self-confidence and sarcasm. Then the family matriarch sends him on a mission that turns out to be a deadly setup. Declared a rogue, Eddie teams up with short-tempered witch Molly Metcalf to find out why he's been betrayed.

What the Critics Say

"This spy yarn is packed with enough humor, action and plot twists to satisfy fans who prefer their adventure shaken, not stirred." (Publishers Weekly)
"Green sustains a good spy thriller's breakneck action with lots of magic, strange creatures, and even some character growth and romance." (Booklist)

Enjoyable new series with nods to the Nightside

Would you listen to The Man with the Golden Torc again? Why?

Probably, I like to listen when I run and get through a lot of books that way. I like to reread/relisten.

What other book might you compare The Man with the Golden Torc to, and why?

There are many similarities to Simon R Green's other series, The Nightside, and like those books it take a theme, Bond-esque in this case, PI-noir for the Nightside books, and twists it to add a supernatural and Other universe to exist in. There are plenty of references and in jokes recognisable to any fantasy/scifi fan drawn from books and other sources, new and old.

What does Stuart Blinder bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

A fantastic dry London accent brings the character to life

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Love the writing, kept me guessing as the tension built.
