Summary

New York Times best-selling author Jack Campbell's epic series, The Pillars of Reality, reaches its exciting conclusion.
The Great Guilds, fearing the loss of their control of the world of Dematr, have gathered their power and joined it with the relentless legions of the Empire. The full might of that host will fall upon the fortress city of Dorcastle. If Dorcastle falls, the revolt led by Master Mechanic Mari and Mage Alain will fail, and their world will soon descend into chaos.
Only Mari, believed to be the daughter of an ancient prophecy, can inspire the people and lead the defense of Dorcastle. The prophecy says she has a chance to win, but it doesn't say she will survive. Alain will stand by her, both willing to die for the other, but neither one knows if their sacrifices will mean victory.
As they battle the Imperial legions and see friends fall, Mari and Alain face their greatest challenges. And if they somehow win in the face of impossible odds, neither one can be certain what sort of world that victory will produce.

Strong! Ending?

I could just copy mine previous review of any book in this series.
Very good ending (?) or there will be more.... I hope ;) there was no surprise in this book but it doesn't mean it was bad - it's good and very creative in a way that your mind can enjoy this universe. Do I have to say that you should read it? You will enjoy it! And there is hope for more:) If this world will continue to evolve...(and I hope it will) it will be great I'm sure of it.

Great stopping point, but not a conclusion

The narration by MacLeod Andrews was superb. He moves from voice-to-voice effortlessly.

The story by Jack Campbell continues the engaging mission of Mari and Alain to save the world. This last book is a bit darker than the earlier ones; it is certainly more than a YA novel, and captures (sometimes depressingly so) the horror of war -- both to the characters as well as the reader. The story is brought to a stopping point, but not a conclusion -- there is plenty more to be told and revealed.

Great Conclusion

So first to those who have made it this far with the Series, this book is great conclusion to this series.

The narrator MacLeod Andrews continues the great job from the rest of the series. Very well done on a production stand point without any noticeable problems. One issue might the speaking speed was a bit slow I listened to the book at 2.65x by the end which sounded like the regular 2x from other narrators. Most narrators speak roughly at 2 minutes a page, so either MacLeod Andrews is a great narrator who can be listened to at high speeds or this book is artificially longer from a listening standpoint.

The story takes place right after the last book took place, most of the book was the defense of Dorcastle, that city has so many damn walls. I actually liked for me after all the carnage the author took the time to conclude the story that started in Dragons of Dorcastle, often times books have Big Battle short discussion with survivors .. THE END. Jack Campbell also sets up plot for possible future series that will take place in this Universe without resorting to Cliff-hangers.

The characters were very likable in this iteration.. except the ones that were purposefully annoying.

So for those who have been listening to this series up to this point this is a great way to end this, and hopefully in the future we will see more from this Universe in form of a sequel series.

Thank You Jack Campbell for writing this great series, and MacLeod Andrews for its Performance.
